Air crashes: 2002 safest in 55 years
2002 was the safest year in terms of aircraft crashes since 1947, according to the results released by the Air Crashes Records Office.
Despite the global death toll of 1,379 and total accidents was counted at 154, fewer people died in aircraft crashes last year than any other flight since 1947, according to Airwise News.
The ACRO covers most aircraft of six-passenger capacity or more in their calculations, including private, commercial, rescue, cargo and military aircraft.
The Crash figures in Asia rose by 15 per cent, 5 per cent in Africa, while Europe, North and South America recorded decreases of 4 and 14 per cent.
About 45 per cent of accidents occurred in North and South America. WOW!
