About our Director!

Bark Lakes Woodwind/Saxophone Camp runs under the direction of Vic Bland, founder of the Bark Lake Woodwind/Sax Camp, and a professional musician who has many years of experience as a player, bandleader and teacher. As a performer he excels in all aspects of saxophone, clarinet and flute playing and doubling; while as a teacher he instructs in all levels and styles of music.

Vic, part of the Toronto music scene since 1957, arrived from London, England where he played with many Palais Bands performing on sax, clarinet and flute. He performed with big band greats such as Mart Kenny, Pat Riccio, Bobby Gimby, Moxie Whitney, Johnny Lindon, Dennis Bartlet, Trump Davidson and Art Snider to mention a few. After a long stint of performing in hotels backing such stars as Bob Hope, Sammy Davis Jr., Mel Torme, Cleo Laine, Johnny Desmond, Connie Stevens and others, he started his own group performing in places like the Valhalla Inn, Royal York Hotel and the Skyline Hotel. Outside of his busy commercial performing, Vic is very active as a classical player in the sax quartet and woodwind chamber music areas.

Outside of his busy private teaching practice, Vic was the saxophone/clarinet/flute instructor at York University, a position he has held for ten years as well as teaching woodwinds at Claude Watson School of the Arts.

Vic holds a Bachelor of Arts (Music) from York University; a Bachelor of Education from University of Toronto; and a Licentiate in Saxophone Performance from Trinity College of Music in London, England.
