When we set out to create this website, we wanted to make a site that we would want to use when looking for information from other breweries. We put ourselves in your shoes, and tried to make a very user friendly and informational website. We reviewed other sites to get an idea of what type of information should be portrayed as well as the best layouts. We then started experimenting. Once we know what type of information was needed, we started to compile our data. We created our food menu, took pictures of our beers, described our beers in detail, described where we are located, described who we are, and how to contact us. Once all of this was put together we began experimenting with different layouts, different fonts, and different color schemes. After changing the site a few times we finally landed on the site you see before you now. We enlisted several craft brew connoisseurs to provide valuable feedback on the layout and usability of the site.
Because the website we built was a simple and straightforward site, we thought it would be best to build the site in a simple sequential linear manor. The site has a simple navigation menu at the top which allows people to click through from page to page. All pages link back to the homepage, and the menu is available on every page. Home Page, this is the initial page that is accessed when browsing the website. This page has a simple layout that quickly shows you that you are on a website for a brewery. Our Story, this page is used to explain how our business got started and a basic overview of the company. The Team, this page is used to explain who the people responsible for the brewery. The Beer, this page is the main showcase of the website. This is because the brewery’s main product is beer! This page lists all the types of beer that is brewed, and what is on tap currently at the brewery. The Food – Because the brewery also serves food, this page is used to list the food served on site. It basically is an online version of the menu. Contact Us, this page covers how to email/call the brewery, as well as detailed information about how to locate the brewery. A contact form is used to easily contact us by filling in a few fields and the click of a button.
We have chosen a mix of grey, white, black, and orange. These colors seem to go very well together, and after doing some research it seems a lot of breweries choose similar combinations for their color palette. We chose grey for the background borders and white for the rest of the background. We then incorporated orange as an accent color.
We think it would make the most sense to choose just a couple typefaces for this website. It is a simple site, and has no need for many different fonts. We chose to use Avant Garde for the main headings and headlines, and Rockwell for the other content. We thought these two looked good together, and both have nice clean and easy to read lines. We wanted typefaces that go along with the theme of the site, which is clean and simple.
We are proud of the website, but of course there is always room for improvement. In the future lookout for additional media related content. We would like to have a video tour of the brewery, better phots of the beers and customers enjoying our delicious beer. We’ll soon have a blog site linked to our website which would allow customers to write comments and reviews of our beer and their visits. We’ll also be working on a newsletter which will allow customers to sign up and stay informed with all news related to us! We are also working on additional marketing material, which will include coupons and discounts!
