Banwell is a very small, historic village in North Somerset that lies on the edge of the Mendip Hills - one of the UK's smallest Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Unfortunately it also lies at the meeting point of several major cross-country roads that lead between Weston super Mare, Bristol Airport and the M5.

In places, the A368 road through Banwell is 13ft 3inches (404cm) wide. Despite this, it is a 'recommended' route for Heavy Goods Vehicles and has been designated as part of the National Primary Route network for freight distribution.

As a result of this absurd decision by the Government Office of the South West, our village suffers from excess heavy goods traffic. This combines with the limited topography of the village to produce a major traffic problem.

The purpose of this website is to explain our problem, to discuss some of the possible solutions and to seek your support in our campaign for change.
