Babalu's Bio
Babalu the latin funksters band in Australia, blends traditional and contemporary Afro-Caribbean with the OZ touch making this music irresistable.
The band features Colombian singer Irma Monsalve Botero, a pioneer of the Sydney salsa movement whose passionate stage performance with a characteristic timing phrasing and feeling, captivates the audience leaving them breathless.
Babalu was formed by Irma in 1996 and performed for first time at Carnavale New South Wales
that year, since then they have appeared in numerous festivals like World eleven, Songs of the Wind,
Folk on Higher Ground, Winter Magic and
Sydney Bacardi Latino playing to an audience of more than 20.000 people and sharing stage with artists like Ricardo Lemvo y "La Maquina Loca"
and King Chango, etc.
The band has released their first CD:
Australiano Latino a self-financed EP that was bestseller at Carnavale NSW.
Babalu's music has the ingredients of a unusual mix : Love for the rhythm, passion and a sense of joy shared by the musicians and the audience, it takes the listeners on a musical journey to the Afro-Caribbean Universe .
