It's All About Chemistry

After three unsuccessful years getting the Championship Trophy at the Annual Phil-Am Basketball Tournament, the B-boys decided to revamp the lineup to make a serious bid for this year's tournament. Since regulars Miggy Silva and Jingo Bucu backed out from this year's tournament and superstar Mike Delfin did not join opting to save his energy for the White Plains league, four, err este three key players have been added. The feared CSA tandem of Aki Ungson and Dane Mendoza plus Ateneo's Team B player Justin Qua will make this year's squad a team to be reckoned with. The dribbling skills of Aki and Dane will make up for the loss of B's true point guard, El Kapitan Bucu while the slashing and rebounding moves of the Silvanatorrr-e will go in to the laps of the talented Mr. Qua and the campus heartthrob, Aki Ungson. In addition, the mid range shot that team-B has always been missing will now be answered with the addition of Dane Mendoza, know for his lethal mid range jumper and acrobatic aerial plays.

Truly, these key additions combined with the seasoned veterans that team B already have will make this year's team the best one yet. But the key question remains: Will all these players, superstars in their own right, be able to gel and play as a team? As years have passed, no doubt that compared to their opponents, the B-boys are not the most talented team. But what makes this team great is their will to win and their team chemistry. Playing with each other for over five years, this group of boys were able to highlight their teammates' strength and support each individual's weakness. But with the addition of the newcomers, things will be a little different. The new guys will have to learn and adapt B's brand of basketball. Full court defense, non stop pressure, run and gun fastbreak and the killer outside shots. Of course the best way for the team to gel and develop some chemistry is through practice and through the games that they will play as well. We hope that they will get to know the team chemistry before its too late. The 2003-2004 Los Angeles Lakers headed into the NBA Season regarded as champions since according to many this was the most talented team ever, Shaq, The Glove, Mailman and Kobe sure seemed unstoppable to many. But once they reached the Finals they were stopped by a group of hard nose, tough and unified Detroit team which beat them in five games to be one of the surprises of the NBA finals. Is this year's team the Lakers or the Pistons? Only time will tell.

In basketball it's not always about talent, it's about the will to win and the will to play as a team.
