The boys of B2004 entered their first year of high school oblivious to a future passion, the sport of basketball. Finally, after occasional games played during P.E., team B2004 made its first step toward basketball fanaticism. During their first ever class night, the league more commonly referred to as Bragging Rights, was formed, with 5 teams of 5 players each. Clearly, this tournament was a success as it was able to showcase individual skills on a bigger, more collective light. For the first time since being grouped together, bboys were enjoying basketball together. The only question was, how would they fare against people outside the class, who are stronger, faster, more physical and better? That question was answered during the first year of the sportsfest when they went toe-to-toe with contenders and eventual champions. Indeed, they were ready.
A year went by and a lot did change. A group of kids from this class seasoned themselves by entering an intervillage league in Philam during summer. Though it was an under-19 league, these 14 year olds defied all odds and got third place. Recruited by Nico Agustin, they were the darlings of the tournament, shocking both the crowd and themselves. Then during 2nd year, the then-famous now-defunct league known as the BBA was inaugurated with team Cholo as its first ever champions. On a wider scale, this same team moved all the way to the finals in the sportsfest. Each game they were underdogs, and each time, they showed the world that team chemistry is far better than individual talent. Armed with a press defined as 40 minutes of hell, they ran the tables on everyone. This full-court press has since then become the trademark of B2004 basketball.
2 years, 3 summers, 3 BBAs, and 2 Bragging Rights tournaments later, team B2004 decided to expand themselves by joining another league in White Plains. The decision to join was because of the Hulk's performance in this same league. He recruited the Philam boys to join and at the same time, came up with the idea of forming two teams, just so everyone would get the chance to play. Imagine, having close to 30 people playing basketball, all giving their 40 minutes of hell. In that league, team A of B2004 was able to reach the finals though they eventually lost to Faith.Basketball by a total of 2 points in 2 games. Team B on the other hand, proved everyone who thought they were just a joke, wrong. They stayed close to strong teams while managing to sneak in a few victories while they were at it. With a season under their belt, Team B is poised and ready to take the next step, making the playoffs. And after having to endure the bitter taste of defeat, team A is ready to win it all.
Basketball has always been a sport that Bboys loved to play. Basketball was loved by the boys because it was through this that the class got together. It was through the game of hoops that camaraderie was formed, memories were built. What makes B2004basketball different from the rest is that, though we also play for competition, we play for the laughs as well. We play for the bonding before, during and after games. We look forward to the moments that define our year. That key put back, the fancy pass, the dagger three, the killer press. These things are what we look for in playing basketball. These things are what we've come to expect. And so, with basketball, instinctively comes love and passion. This is what we love to do. This is who we are defined by. We take roles and play them perfectly. We share the ball and look for the open guy. And best of all, we celebrate each other's success. Because, frankly, isn't that what the game's all about?
The time has come. It is time to win. Give it your all, now more than ever.
