What your bird has been eating- Debi Ralston
I feed my birds one hot meal a day, either soft food mix or scrambled eggs. I feed Scenic Pellets Corn and/or cheese flavor, (avoid artificially colored pellets, and  spirulina-an additive). I add dried pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and an unfortified seed mix, also available at a local pet bird store. I have this dry food mix available to my birds all day and night, except when I feed fresh food. I remove the dry food to encourage them to eat the fresh food. I feed raw carrots, apples, broccoli, corn on the cob and grapes, depending on the season. Try what ever is in season. Remember to always avoid, avocado and chocolate. Limit salt and sugar, avoiding it completely most of the time. A corn chip or vanilla wafer can be a special treat. I also serve a dried fruit snack mix. I have made my own, with dried fruits, nuts and Cheerios, I add dried unsweetend coconut, but am careful not to add sulphered or sweetened fruits. I go to Whole Foods they have lots of goodies.

Soft food mix-Debis Recipe
Start with 1 cup of uncooked, unseasoned popcorn, in a crock-pot full of water. Cook on high, 8-9 hours. Add 1 cup of dried rinsed beans, (red, pinto, navy, etc. your preference). Let popcorn and beans cook for 3 more hours, add 1 cup of brown rice. Cook another 30-45 minutes. Season with, garlic (powder or fresh) and/or, crushed red pepper.  I sometimes add carrots or broccoli while the beans are cooking for variations. I freeze small amounts in yogurt cups, or baggies for a month or so. Be sure to reheat the mixture to a temp above boiling to kill any bacteria, stir and check the temp before feeding it to your bird. I add frozen peas to cool it off quickly. Remove any uneaten soft food mix after 2 hours, before it can spoil.

Scrambled eggs-Debis Recipe
Crack one egg (include the shell) in a coffee cup or other microwave safe container. Scramble adding frozen corn or peas. Season with crushed red pepper. Microwave until fully cooked. Break apart with a fork and allow to cool before serving. Remove any uneaten eggs after 2 hours, before it can spoil.

Cornbread-Debis Recipe
I use a box of jiffy cornbread mix, or the recipe on any brand of cornmeal. I dont add vegetable oil, or milk.  I add extra eggs with the shell and whatever veggies nuts and seasoning I have available. Sometimes raisins, applesauce, jalapeno, or canned pumpkin. I just get creative. Remember what we like, may be boring to our birds. My cornbread usually looks yucky, but they love it. I cut it up in squares and freeze in baggies.
