The Golden Woods
ALONG THE RIDGE
As the next barrier of golden foliage thins and you near another clearing, the sound of soft gurgling can be heard. It is water again, but not the thunder of the Falls, but the soft sound of a welling cool-spring! As you clear the trees you see another meadow like those before, the grass in this one trimmed low to the ground, and intertwined with a thick silverish moss that makes the ground soft...almost squishy! You look to your right, away from the ridge edge, to see the source of the noise. A pond lays at the edge of the forest where the large overhanging trees provide shade from the sun overhead all through the day. As you walk closer, you see that the pond is not small and does not stop at the forest's edge! It extends back far into the trees, its deep waters flowing around the trunks as if a flood had caused the pond to suddenly spring up and engulf the nearby forest!
Far in the distance, but moving steadily closer, you spy a greenish creature that you suspect is very large indeep. It swims gracefully, cutting through the water, making a beeline for the shore on which you stand. You await its arrival, no longer worried as you had been before that the creature might pose a threat. Very few of the creature here seem to bbe harmful at all, in fact! Most are as friendly as can be...
Several moments pass and the green shape draws nearer, traveling swiftly under the water's surface. You turn your head for just a moment to survey the golden meadow once more, and hear a sudden huge splash! Water flies everywhere about you and by the time all is quiet again, you are thoroughly wetted and the creature stands solemnly in the center of the feet, preening its dripping fur! You HARUMPH indignantly and stalk up to the creature, demanding to know what it thought it was doing getting you all wet! It stares....

The large creature seems to be a mix of bird and beast, its huge body pied in colors of green and white. It is breathtaking and frightening at once, and you find yourself speachless as it.....
.....laughs.
Your silence is broken as the laughter throws you into a rage and you demand the creature to tell you why it thhinks you being wet and now cold is so funny! It's answer is given low, in a lovely, musical voice that is nearly a whisper. "Because it is!" You give up, too tired and uncomfortable to play games. The creature seems to pick up and this and speaks up, trying to distract you, to give time for the warm sun to dry you off a bit. "Oh, travelor, do not take such a joke so harshly! Allow me to introduce myself. I am Zicso'Quiwmii! It means Lime Breeze in you tongue, fair one. I am a Kearu'Nami given to the Lady Azrielen for her superior performance in a contest of wits! I am a wild 'Nami, and I have no idea of my parentage, but I know they were grand 'Namis and that they were valiant and brave!" Zicso' smiles a slight, lovely smile. "Azrielen took me in and gave me this lovely place all to myself, with this wonderous pond to swim in, for it is the activity I love the best! I also most truly love visitors, so be sure to come again, fair travelor, and enjoy your journeys!" With that breif contact, the lovely female moves off through the thick golden foliage, perhaps to hunt, perhaps to visit with friends, leaving you alone with the close sound of the gurgling spring-pond and the distance thunderous rumbling of the mystic Falls for company...
|
You now have a choice.... You could move back toward the luring thunder of the Falls, giving it to its wondrous subsonic pull.... Or you could continue forward, moving farther along the ridge to see what other creatures live so close to the dark ridge and its deadly promises.... And there is always the option to manifest the powers humming around you and to teleport back to the Entrance of the Golden Woods. |
