The Golden Woods
ALONG THE RIDGE
The immense sounnd of the Falls fades slowly as you make your way through a golden vine barrier into another meadow, this one also open to the lip of the ridge where the bottomless chasm begins. You glance at that harsh edge warily as you move a bit farther away from it, out into the meadow.
This is a place not so well-kept as the others, with its grasses allowed to grow long. The wave in the wind, making the entire meadow seem to move in the breeze, a single sheet of gold silk waving and rippling. You seen movement in the taller grasses toward the center of the meadow. It is a creature, you realize, moving and breaking up the gentle flowing of the grass. A creature of what type you are not sure, and since the fierceness of some of the creatures you have already met is still etched in your mind, you are wary. You do not move, just stand in the knee-deep grass and wait for the creature to make its move....and it does.
| Suddenly, a lareg head, then body of some deeply red creature emerges from the grass. You yell in surprise and turn, muscles tensed to bolt, before you realize that this creature is not set on hurting you, but is mearly being protective, trying to warn you off. You stand, hands on hips, until the creature returns to all fours with a thump of its large from feet. It stares at you oddly with its dark eyes. "You have not left yet. Who are you?" it's voice os half-amused and half-wary. You tell it your name and origin, making it all very formal and respectful, trying your best not to truly anger the large animal. Once you are finished, you bow, and the creature breaks into a wide smile! "Ah! A visitor! It's been quite a while since we've had one of those! Come, travelor, let me introduce myself and those who share my meadow!" | ![]() |
"I am Echem'Csiwesx'Mekycsu, or Red Battle's Glory. You can call me Echem...just Red. A fitting name, no?" the large creature laughs. "I am a Ladgon, a race know for bravery and strength. I was a gift to Lady Azrielen from Cloud for her birthday quite a while ago, and have finally been relocated to this meadow from my home in Cloud's lands. It was a hard move, but I have already made many friends here! Come, meet a few of them!"
Echem takes you toward a patch of very tall grass that seems to be braided in a pattern that forms a thick cone of tall grasses, much like a teepee. He raises a foot and gently shakes the grass hut, drawing an annoyed squeak from inside. After a second, a gray nose pokes through the vines, followed by the head and body of a kangaroo-like creature!

The new animal, grey with black stripes, looks to be a winged kangaroo. It fusses and whines are Echem then yells something frustrated and pushes back into the large teepee, the grasses closing around it like a curtain. Echem clears his throat and speaks up at last. "That was Uayley, a Karoogon. He's a little...umm...cranky right now because he says he was trying to sleep. I think he just stayed up to late last night!" The last part was more yelled at the teepee, meant for Uayley's hearing, than said to you. "He's constantly doing that. Either going out galavanting around the woods or staying up all night with one of his friends he constantly invites over! He really is very nice, though, if a bit thick-jeaded at times!" Echem sighs deeply and leads the way over to the edge of the meadow where a colorful birds sits singing prettily in a tree, its silver featers fitting in nicely with the lusterous leaves around it....

The bird observes you curiously for just a second before going back to its song, which now has a much lighter tone to it. Echem listens a moment, smiling contentedly, then introduces you, voice lowered so as not to disturb others' hearing the bird's song. "Meet, PerGiGi the BarNarNar Bird, wanderer. He is of a breed of bird known for their beautiful voices and lovely coloring! BarNarNars love marshlands or meadows with tall grasses such as this one, where there are plenty of insects and little critters to keep a large bird healthy! BarNarNar's are skilled hunters! They are also very very rare. Only a few exist at this point. PerGiGi was given to the Lady Azrielen as a gift from Mistress Unseen, and is a cherished friend of mine and Uayley's. He serenades us constantly and we never tire of his lovely voice!" Echem smiles and the bird twitters what must be a farewell to Echem, and then yourself. |
"Yes, PerGiGi is right, you must be on your way! Can't wait around here forever! Have a wondrous journey and may the Spirits be with you!
|
You now have a choice.... You could head back toward the mesmerizing sound of the waterfall, back to the T'Reithi Falls.... Or you could continue onward, moving farther along the ridge to see what other creatures live along the beatiful golden chasm and its bottomless danger.... And there is always the option to manifest the powers humming around you and to teleport back to the Entrance of the Golden Woods. |
