Theme Discovery Report

Theme Discovery report is a bible study tool that enables bible students to
easily see the key words in any given range of verses. It:

1. Extracts Strong's Numbers from the verse range.
2. Counts and sorts the numbers by occurance within the verse range.
3. Displays the results in a report format.

The report was created by Dean Montgomery. More Information

Libronix DLS Object Model Reference

The Libronix DLS Object Model Reference is now available. Although this resource is free, you will need to unlock it. Please note the following remarks by Bob Pritchett : "This unsupported documentation is an aid for writing custom toolbar scripts and programs that access the Libronix DLS through OLE Automation. No tutorials exist for using the object model -- asking questions here is probably the best way to get help at this time. The documentation will be updated as we have time and resources to do so."

Automation Examples

These automation examples were provided on the automation newsgroup by Bradley Grainger. If you have any questions about them then please ask on that newsgroup.

Libronix DLS Automation Test - This example takes a bible verse and parses it into a format that is used internally by LDLS eg.

John 3:16 is parsed to bible.64.3.16 (datatype.booknumber.chapter.verse). It then takes this parsed verse reference and displays the verse text. The code in this example is the basis of what lies behind the copy bible verses function. For more information on automating copy bible verses from another application click here.

Passage - This example opens a bible reading plan and displays the plan. Click on one of the plan days and the verses for that reading are displayed.

Series X Quick Search Commands

In October 2001 Jacob Carpenter made available on the Series X newsgroup two little registry files which once installed allowed you to quickly lookup a verse in your default bible or word in your default english-text keylink resource from the address bar in IE or on your windows taskbar. For example typing: bible jn 3:16 in an address bar will open your default bible to jn 3:16.

I have created some new quick launch commands for acessing Strongs Concordance, Merriam-Webster Dictionary, Merriam Webster Thesaurus, Collins Dictionary & Collins Thesaurus. For more information on how to create your own quick search commands or if you simply want to download those created by Jacob or myself click here.

KJV Dictionary for Microsoft Word

Microsoft Word's default dictionary doesn't recognize a lot of biblical names and places. By adding a custom dictionary you can overcome this limitation. Bill from Scripture Site has put together a custom KJV Dictionary that you can use with Microsoft Word. For instructions on how to install and download this dictionary visit scripture site.

Updating Your Series X Resources

From time to time various Logos Series X resources will be updated. These updated versions are made available for download from the Logos FTP Server. (Note: Updates for Third Party Resources will generally have to be obtained from the third party).

But how do you know what resources you need to update. One way is to check the FTP site regularly and download any new files since you last checked the site. But this is a bit of a hit and miss approach.

A better way is to use a FTP synchronization program: a file management utility used to synchronize files between a local machine and an FTP server. Such a program will compare the files on hard drive to those on a server and indicate which files on your hard drive need updating.

There are lots of different programs that will provide this function. Some options are: CuteFTP , Windows Commander, WS_FTP PRO & FTPSync . These programs each offer different degrees of funtctionality. Windows Commander is a full blown windows explorer style utility with built in FTP & ZIP tools amongst many other options. CuteFTP and WS_FTP Pro are fully developed FTP file management utilities. FTPSync is simply is a utility to assist in synchronizing files between a local location and a remote locaton.

Windows Commander is a good choice is you want a general file management utililty. CuteFTP and WS_FTP Pro are more suited to those who regularly transfer files between a local and remote location. If you don't want to get lost in all the extra feature and tools and simply want to keep your Series X Resources up to date then FTPSync would be a good option and I have put together a tutorial on using FTPSync for updating your Series X Resources.

When updating books from the Logos FTP server please do not try and dowload all of the books at once. Even if you have a broadband connection that will allow you to do this, by doing so you are putting an unfair and unecessary load on the Logos FTP server. Logos provides this service free of charge even thought it costs them to provide it and if everyone tries to download a huge amount of books at once this will only result in an extremely large bill for Logos which ultimately will have to be passed on to us the consumers in one way or another.
