    INTRODUCTION

Phillip Island is just 150 km southeast of Melbourne City and many tourists go there to see the penguin parade as they come ashore.

    Penguin Parade

Just after dusk each day many fairy penguins come to shore at one particular beach on Phillip Island after spending the day at sea hunting fish. They waddle across the beach to their burrows in the sand dunes. The beach is inundated by Japanese tourist to see the nightly parade and is big business for the government. Entry $9, children $4.

Beyond this major tourist attraction, Phillip Island is a quiet beach place with holiday houses owned by people from Melbourne.

Bus tours to see the penguin parade depart Melbourne at 5.30pm reurning 11.30pm. Cost: $65.50 includes entry.

    Seal Rocks and The Nobbies

A colony of fur seals live at Seal Rocks a little offshore. The Nobbies is a group of rocks just of the coast.

    Cape Woolami

A desolate sandy spit with dunes lead to the Cape. There is no road, only a walking track. Woolami also has treacherous surf beaches. Rather try the tamer Smiths Beach also on the island's south coast.
