B4-5 EXTENSION AT BUNGONIA

Proposal / Report

A trip to Bungonia caves, B4-5 extension was found clear of foul air up to the 30-foot ladder pitch in the extension (Tuesday 6th October 1998). The only thing that stopped us was a 6.5-meter ladder pitch, as I did not want to drag a ladder through the extension, we had enough trouble with a small pack tied around one leg. The ~400m crawl was painful on my friend but I knew what I was getting myself into so I had My brothers old skating knee pads a that made the journey a lot more comfortable. We left food at "Kings Cross" in the cave, although it was only ell-cheap-o food, it still tasted good. When we came back for it after doing the extension. We took food with us but this did not last long, we also had some water which went fast but the water in the cave was very clean so I decided to risk it by drinking it, and plenty of it!

JENOLAN CAVES

Proposal

A trip to Jenolan caves in the Easter holidays will hopefully find more caves if not find more passages through the cave system. An area I would most as to find are passages above the "stage" area where it is found that bat guano is seeping thorough cracks in the roof. Another is from spider cave (J174) to Aladdin cave (J19) through a rockpile near the entrance to the cave, others include Devil's Coach House (J165) and holes in the Grand Arch (J164) that may hopefully lead into the pool of Cerberus Cave (J11). This cave was once called Skeleton Cave because of bones found in the cave.

Report

I was only down at the caves for 3 days and didn't get around to do much although I found the location of mammoth cave (J13) and explored the cave fully (so I think if you know what I mean) before the solution slot. This must be negotiated to get access to the rest of the 13km cave. You should be able to find it if you know your way around the "valley" and a little cave discovery "common sense" can be helpful.

The "Arch cave" was also explored and a signature found with the year 1856 this is 10 years after the arch cave was discovered in 1846 it must be authentic, as back then they wrote everything in such a smooth cursor writing. Either that are, someone did a good prank.

Nettal cave, (below arch cave) discovered in1845

To see the cave notes go to "other caves" at the Jenolan page.

B4-5 EXTENSION AT BUNGONIA

Proposal

In what is known as Schoolies week I will and several of my colleagues will be traveling to Bungonia to do a number of caves in the are the B4-5 Extension will be one of them. Allthough I have done the cave before I know what to expect from the "rat run" and can be looking forward to the "Traditional Resting Place". We plan to do the whole extension from "The Largest Chamber" to "St. Patrick's Lake", although I am uncertain that when we are in the cave, that when the time comes to go for "The Swim" what ever happen happens. When the Extension was last attemped there was only two of us that braved to do the long craw. More people would have been better as to share the baggage load. We left food at specific places in the cave so that we can come back to it on our return, and come back to it we did. Although it was the cheepest food rubbish we had ever bought it tasted great . (for less detailed text) To complete the B4-5 extension successfully a group of +5 will have to be involved

Report

This report will be here after the expedition has taken place. ASAP.

The transport fell through so the trip will take place some other time Yet to be known.

Wee Jasper

Proposal

most of the known caves except Church Cave. At the caves we will be spending much of the time in the caves (over 16 hours combined in The Dip and The Punchbowl caves) last time my friends went to Wee Jasper they found a supposedly unmarked cave when they went back to camp for equipment and came back they lost the location of the cave. The cave was a shaft in to the ground near the crater.

Report

This trip was changed to the above Bungonia trip. We not decided yet on which caves at Bungonia although the B4-5 extension will be in the list of caves to do along with blowfly
