'BugerEarth' WIX website
http://burgerearth.wix.com/centralnode
Central node website created for previous assignment; to create a web presence.
I made this website using a WIX website template. The idea of the entity ‘BurgerEarth’ is the basis for this assignment. I will re-use the public domain images and videos, and the BurgerEarth logo. I liked the simplicity of the WIX template, but it wasn’t the exact final product I wanted to create.
The Cheese & Burger Society website
https://www.cheeseandburger.com/
A highly entertaining, visually rich and informative website
In my opinion, this is the best burger website in the world today. It is mouth watering fun for anyone who likes burgers. Many a good recipe is included, and the site is highly interactive, highly visual and full of tongue-in-cheek humour that entices the user to explore further and re-visit. A website about burgers should be as social and enjoyable as the burgers themselves.

Food, blogging and the Internet: Some statistics (Batchelder 2012)
Eat&Tweet (WilliamMurray n.d.)
Fast Food Burger Shops in Australia: Market Research Report (IBISWorld 2015)
Statisitcs of the size of the burger industry in Australia, and the influence of online food information.
These numbers validate market for an online information hub specific to burger venues in Australia, and burger recipes for interested people. The target audience for BurgerEarth is essentially anybody who eats fast food, and the website’s focus on quality recipes, ingredients and venues expands that target audience to include home ‘foodie’ enthusiasts.
In his spare time, Dave likes to entertain friends, and friends-of-friends, at his house. His personal favourite is a big communal barbeque banquet, and he has found there is no better way to impress than to prepare some truly sesational burgers. Always on the lookout for the best recipes and techniques, Dave simply reads from his Android tablet while chopping and grilling away, honing his skills as he learns each new flavour combination.
What David wants from his digital portal is this:
An informative, easy to follow guide for all the best burger recipes and ingredients.
People know best, so whichever dishes are voted superior must have been done so for
a delicious reason.
He needs a clear, easy-to-read recipe that guides him through the best process to make the best burgers. But also the ability to ‘zoom in’ on individual ingredients, so he can find the best cheeses and sauces to add a special edge to his own creations. One day, he hopes to upload his own perfected burger recipe; “The Dave”.
Nothing extravagant, just quality time out to enjoy each other. Dinner and a movie is quite common, and both enjoy a nice burger with fries, to feed up on while they discuss the week. Ideally, they could look to a specialist website and find all the burger venues in their area, as well as decent reviews on what is good at each one.
They’d like to try a new place every so often, and have the recommendation of a burger-critic to know which is the best burger on the menu. Why not even take advantage of a special deal the venue may have, like free soft drinks when you buy two burgers? It would be the perfect date-night formula.
An attractive website or app, easy to read with entertaining reviews, and to-the-point information about burger bars within 15km of their suburb? Yes please.
Tasting Table online magazine
http://www.tastingtable.com/index.htm
‘Foodie‘ online information hub.
Tasting Table shares reviews of restaurants, recipes, video guides for recipes, general food articles, and other relevant content. I wish to include the same categories of information in my website. Tasting Table is pleasingly visual-dominant, not-too-much-text, website that functions well as an information hub to link many digital aspects of one theme. It is a broad category of information – food – whereby my website will hone in on the Burger niche.
Internet Movie Database
IMDb is a huge website that is just an information hub for a niche interest.
IMDb is possibly the best example of what a relatively simple website design can aspire to. It is the go-to reference for all things movie. Videos, trailers, pictures, cast, trivia, ratings, reviews. Simple content, deep reach, vast in its thoroughness, as I hope my website will one day be.
The Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery website
A beautiful, spaciously laid out, visually rich website.
I wish to emulate the design ethos used here; spacious layout of content, visually rich and often interactive elements, concise informative text, dynamic website interactivity with all mouse actions – scrolling / hovering / clicking.
MOXHE Restaurant website
Very visually rich, dynamic graphical content, ‘foodie’ theme.
I find the white and bright colour theme appealing, particularly for food-themed media. The page changes are pleasing, and the scrolling and scroll marker is simple, yet rich and effective. The opaque video as a background for the homepage is particularly appropriate for the site.
Humboldt County tourism website
Clear bright symbolic icon buttons.
Buttons to link between pages and elements are bright, simple, custom made symbol icons. I like the use of symbols as an efficient communication medium, and want to create informative icons for clickable buttons.
KLM Airlines iFly Magazine – 50th Anniversary edition
https://www.ifly50.com/en_au/50
Visually rich website, making makes excellent use of high quality photos.
The full screen images are presented as almost the whole message, very simple yet highly effective page changes, message delivery and usability. Tailored for international audiences so text is kept to a minimum.
Smashing Magazine – Following a Web Design Process

From the Study Guide Chapter 2 references. tons.
Reasoned and methodical approach to making the information elements of a website come together to be usable and appealing. The process and methods help you keep organised with all your website material.
The Gestalt Principle: Design Theory for Web Designers
A guide to the visual meanings of images.
I want my website to be highly visual, communicating as much as possible, as accurately as possible, with as few words as possible. I figured this was a good subject to delve into and seek deep understanding.
