About Ashridge Nursery

Ashridge Nursery is an independent, purpose-built nursery, with its own fully enclosed gardens.  Established for 25 years, we have an excellent OFSTED report.

  We offer:

  • Places for children aged 3 to 5.
  • Morning (9.00 - 11.30) or afternoon (1.00 - 3.30) sessions, Monday to Friday during school term times.
  • A well-qualified, experienced and enthusiastic team of staff with a ratio of adults to children of 1:6.
  • The opportunity to claim the Nursery Education Grant, entitling your child to free education from the term after their third birthday.

Ashridge Nursery is a non-profit making registered charity, administered through a Management Committee.  The Committee consists of parents and others who are interested in the future of the Nursery and the continued provision of pre-school education in the area.

The Grounds

The Nursery grounds are fully enclosed within the grounds of Keephatch Primary School.  Entrance to the grounds is gained via a wooden gate.

There is a large tarmac area to the front, for riding bicycles and sit and ride cars and toys.  This is also ideal for the use of balls, hoops, beanbags, etc.  Plant troughs, which the children tend, are also located in this area.

In Spring 2004, the second play area, to the side of the building, was re-developed and a climbing frame and sandpit were installed.

The climbing frame includes two towers linked by a bridge, complete with slide, fireman's pole and a rock wall.  This area is surrounded by a safety surface.

Our large, covered sand pit can be turned into a stage for imaginative and creative play.

A further, grassed area provides space for digging, planting and playing.

Entrance to the Nursery is gained by either steps or a ramp, making the building accessible for wheelchairs.  Access to the Nursery is by a door-entry system, providing a secure environment for the children.

The Building

Ashridge Nursery's building was constructed in 1999.  There are two large rooms, separated by a partition.  One is used for 'messy' play such as water, sand and creative activities.  The other room is carpeted and is used for imaginative, constructive and table top activities.  Both areas provide many opportunities for language and mathematical development and investigative play.  There is also a small 'quiet' room, which is well resourced with both story and factual books.  A listening centre provides the opportunity for taped songs, stories and games.  A computer and printer for the children's use is also available in this room
