The following inaccurate map shows the general outline of the city of Qwanet and the approximate areas of influence of the various gangs:
QWANET
Almost all of the detail is wrong, and is put there in order to mislead. How could it be otherwise? Qwanet is not the sort of city where mapmakers can stroll around unmolested.
In particular, the rivers are wrong. The mapmakers were not paid to show where the rivers are, because everyone already knows where they are. The mapmakers were paid to exaggerate the importance of the Districts of Qwanet, and have done so.
GEOGRAPHY: Qwanet is a port, situated at the confluence of two great, slow-moving rivers, the Cojqwif and the Xemfhu. These two rivers feed a small lake, Mildi (meaning "confluence"), around which Qwanet has grown up. Mildi, in turn, feeds Scizjum, a huge lake to the north-west of the city. The Cojqwif, flowing north into Qwanet, marks the current border between the One Red Square district and the red circles districts; the Xemfhu, flowing west into Qwanet, flows through both the Six Rainbow Circles and Four Yellow Circles districts. The great bridges marking the boundary of the Mildi and the Scizjum join the One Red Square District and the Six Rainbow Circles District but are considered neutral territory.
More detail will follow in due course.
If you are a new arrival, you have two options.
Firstly, you could try to make an honest living. Then again, if you wanted to make an honest living, you wouldn't have come to Qwanet, would you?
Secondly, you can join one of the gangs. It is easiest to join the Blue Circles Gang, since that is the part of the city you are currently in, but it is not too difficult to sneak into another part of the city and join the Red Square Gang, the Two Red Circles Gang, the One Red Circle Gang, the Yellow Circles Gang or the Rainbow Circles District. They are all much of a muchness.
Gangs are always looking for thugs. If you are a warrior type and good at using heavy implements to hit people, you are in luck. The Blue Circles Gang takes you on and finds plenty of use for your talents.
Gangs are also always looking for molls. If you are female and good at standing around looking attractive, you are in luck. The Blue Circles Gang takes you on and finds plenty of use for your talents.
Gangs are also always looking for people with thieving talents. If you have the talent, they will provide the training. You may have to pass an aptitude test, but it will be one that anyone with 15 or higher dexterity can pass. Assuming that you pass, the gang takes you on as a trainee thief.
Your DM will tell you about any missions and adventures which come your way.
If you are a new arrival, you have presumably come here to join the Red Square Gang.

You arrive in a teleport tower in the city of Qwanet. You are met by an efficient-looking young lady who briefly looks surprised to see two groups of people turning up, but quickly adjusts to the situation. She glares at Jemonzo Jebristar, obviously blaming him for the muddle.
The efficient-looking young lady then informs everyone, in Common Tongue so perfect that it seems she must have been born in Atlantis, that everyone who arrived with Jemonzo Jebristar will stay the night at the Halfpenny Saddle, an inn in the Red Square District. Everyone who arrived with Rallexia Lahape will stay the night at the Mongrel Cat, another inn in the Red Square District. Overnight accommodation and one meal have been paid for in advance. If you want anything else, you have to pay for it.
Guides are provided to lead you to the appropriate inns. You notice that the two wizards, Jebristar and Rallexia, are not coming with you. If you are particularly observant, you notice that just after you leave they make a point of walking off in different directions.
...
Whichever inn you are in is adequate but not especially comfortable. The food is adequate but not especially tasty (you particularly notice this if you came from Atlantis).
...
In the morning, the groups from both inns congregate at a crossroads in the Red Square District. You notice that a few more people, possibly natives of Qwanet, have joined the party.
You are informed that you have to walk to the Blue Circles District, after which you will walk through a magical archway. On the other side of the archway, a magician will teleport you to your final destination. You see that the natives look uneasy when they hear this.
You are further informed that the wizard, Bukmas Kroffilkovin, who will do this teleporting will take you in two groups. Furthermore, Kroffilkovin insists that he will only take people. Luggage must follow by dog-cart, and will probably arrive at your destination several days after you do. You see that the natives look even more uneasy when they hear this.
En route to the archway, there are several opportunities to sneak off into the crowds of people, either in the Red Square District or the Blue Circles District.
If you're still with the party, you finally come to the archway. Click here to walk through it.
