I haven't written this up yet.
Once upon a time, there was a scenario called The Palace of Tizun Thane. If you didn't see it at the time, there are copies on the internet, including here. (You do read French, don't you?)
A couple of decades ago, the mansion (sometimes called a palace, although that is hype) fell into the hands of a charismatic neutral good warrior, Septimus Aurelianus Aurelius. He is now a major neutral good NPC warrior/bard.
During the intervening decades, there has been some redecoration done in the mansion. In particular, there is no longer a torture chamber. There has also been some rediscovery of the history of the mansion.
The purpose of the mansion is threefold:
Numerically, it is all rather traditional. There is one Orb, there are three Rings, and there are nine Mirrors.
The Orb, known as the Orb of Worindrius, is a small green crystal ball. If you compare the old green computer monitors with modern full-colour monitors, and imagine that crystal balls have developed in an analogous way, you get a feeling for what the Orb looks like.
The Orb of Worindrius is a Semi-Artefact: it can be used by anyone of chaotic alignment who can cast wizard spells, but it can only be used safely by someone of chaotic neutral alignment, who knows and can cast the spell magic mirror, who has a natural charisma of at least 16 and who is lazy (see the character disadvantages in Skills and Powers).
(This description fits perfectly Aurelia, the niece of the current owner of the mansion, and it is she who keeps and uses the Orb.)
The Orb functions as a normal crystal ball, although it is monochrome only and can be difficult to use because of the small picture size. If the user knows the spells ESP or clairaudience, these can be cast through the Orb, but it does not have these powers built in.
As a semi-artefact, it probably has a few other minor powers, but as the current keeper rarely leaves the mansion and no-one, not even a player character, would try to take it off her while a guest in the mansion, they are not relevant.
The major power of the Orb is as a control device for the mirrors (see below).
The three Rings allow the wearer, and anything he or she is wearing or carrying, to pass through the mirrors as if they were magical portals to the scenes they show. As far as anyone has been able to determine, the Rings have no other magical powers.
(The current owner of the mansion has, by fair means or foul, now got all three rings. He wears one; the other two will be worn by two of his numerous henchmen or associates.)
In principle, the nine Mirrors are equivalent to mirrors of mental prowess, except that (i) they only work for someone holding the Orb in both hands, and (ii) they do not answer questions.
Unfortunately, two of the mirrors are broken and do not function at all, and another three are giving problems - the ring-wearers can use them as portals to the scenes they currently show, but they cannot be reassigned to other scenes. The other four mirrors are working correctly - the Orb-carrier can use them as mirrors of mental prowess, and the ring-wearers can use them as portals to any scenes they show.
The owner of the mansion, de facto if not de jure, is Septimus Aurelianus Aurelius, a major neutral good NPC warrior/bard. More often than not, he is out and about, travelling the Fifty Worlds in search of adventure.
In Aurelius's absence, it is nominally his niece Aurelia who is in charge. Aurelia is a half-elven priestess (of Fortuna) and bard, and is chaotic neutral in alignment. Physically, she is a breathtakingly beautiful blonde with a ridiculously high charisma/appearance stat. The idea of her actually being in charge of anything is not one that people take all that seriously, so people come and go more or less as they please.
Combat stats are irrelevant for Aurelia, since she is one of the Marid's favourite humans. If she is threatened, he will intervene to protect her. But only her - he thinks that the rest of Aurelius's entourage are boring and not worthy of his extremely valuable time.
There is a plentiful supply of warriors resident in the Mirror Mansion. Aurelius inherited some of them when he took the mansion from the previous owner; most of these are chaotic neutral in alignment and are more loyal to Aurelia than to her uncle. Aurelius recruited other warriors in his travels around the Fifty Worlds, and most of these are neutral good in alignment and personally loyal to him.
There is also a plentiful supply of scouts resident in the Mirror Mansion. Aurelius recruited some of these in his travels around the Fifty Worlds, and most of these are neutral good in alignment and personally loyal to him. Others came to the Mirror Mansion to spy on Aurelius and decided that they liked it there and wanted to stay; these are not particularly loyal to anyone but would use their skills in defence of the mansion if anyone were insane enough to attack it.
There are no clerics resident in the Mirror Mansion other than Aurelia herself, but it has become a place of pilgrimage for priests of Fortuna, and there may be several of them spending a few weeks there at any time.
The two major magicians resident in the Mirror Mansion are Domina and Xenia, two henchwomen of Aurelius who research spells on his behalf (he has neither the time nor the inclination to do it himself).
Domina (the nickname means "teacher") is the daughter of an engineer known in, but not based in, Omnatia. She originally received the standard education of an upper-middle class Thoqmaxi girl, but when it became clear that she wasn't interested in marrying an upper-middle class Thoqmaxi boy, she was allowed to study illusion at Xenby instead.
Subsequently, she made a living as a spy, specialising in military fortifications, before meeting Aurelius in Omnatia and allying herself with him. She has all the benefits of that kit.
Xenia is the favourite niece of Xenius (the nickname means "hospitality"), who is castellan of one of the many castles in Megalopolis. She studied magic at the College of Knowledge as a pupil of Zaqqiya and in due course became a lecturer there herself before allying herself with Aurelius.
Xenia is a scholar, and has all the benefits and restrictions of that kit. She has the Detect Magic and Read Magic abilities, can cast spells from six schools of magic (Conjuration; Enchantment, Abjuration, Necromancy, Illusion, Transmutation), and does not use physical weapons at all. Her major contribution so far to the theory and practice of magic is the 2nd-level conjuration spell Xenia's Improved Unseen Servant.
