The Fifty Worlds: DM Information

The Temples of Atlantis

The Temples of Atlantis are not above the law, and in their secular dealings must observe the law like any other organisation. However, the law turns a blind eye towards what goes on inside temples, provided that all participants participate of their own informed free will and that any required paperwork (notification of births, marriages, deaths, human sacrifices, divine ascensions, summoning of extraplanar beings, etc) is deposited at the city's records office as prescribed by law.

High Priests are generally in their fifties. Some are retired adventurers, while others have worked their way up through the ranks of the priesthood. The exact duties and responsibilities of a High Priest vary from one temple to another. The High Priest of a temple traditionally has the right to adjudicate secular as well as religious disputes between members of his congregation. Besides which, it saves everyone else the bother.

It will be noted that only one High Priest can cast 7th level spells, and that he is lawful good in alignment. Only two others can cast 6th level spells, and they are chaotic good and neutral evil respectively.

The richer temples are decorated with orichalcum, an alloy of gold and copper.

Temple prostitution is common in Atlantis. One of the little ironies of life in the city is that the only two major temples which do not employ temple prostitutes are those of Teus the Wise and Na the Foolish.

The Temple of Poseidon

Poseidon is honoured by all alignments. Poseidon is the Patron Deity of Atlantis, so all citizens are welcome in His temple.

The temple is the richest in the city. Its decorations are particularly ostentatious, and its temple prostitutes are particularly beautiful and enthusiastic.

High Priest of Poseidon is Devmettefrin Karredsum. His sexual preferences are unwholesome but his popularity, piety and loyalty to Atlantis are unquestioned.

[AD&D-Specific] Devmettefrin Karredsum, human male, height 6'1", weight 213 lb. Str 14 Dex 14 Con 17 Int 16 Wis 15 Cha 16, Hp 93. Cleric, level 21, casting spells up to 5th level.

The Temple of the Imperial Cult

The Imperial Cult is lawful neutral, as befits an institution which, until recently, made the laws of the city.

Nominally, the High Priest of the Imperial Cult is the Emperor himself, Prince Atlantis Atlantor 22nd. This is legal nonsense, and everyone knows it.

The Acting High Priest of the Imperial Cult is Te Zumandevi. He was found a sinecure in the priesthood by his aristocratic family but has grown in stature as he rose in rank and is now surprisingly good at his job.

[AD&D-Specific] Te Zumandevi, human male, height 5'10", weight 166 lb. Str 9 Dex 9 Con 10 Int 13 Wis 13 Cha 11, Align LN, Hp 43. Cleric, level 14, casting spells up to 5th level.

More information may follow in due course.

The Temple of Frark the Controller

Frark the Controller is a control freak deity. He is particularly popular with bureaucrats. His priests believe that orders are there to be obeyed and that free will is an aberration which should be stamped out. They particularly dislike humour. Frark the Controller and His priests are extremely lawful neutral and do not have a sense of humour.

The current High Priest of Frark the Controller, Denat al-Airdia, has only recently taken up his position after the divine ascension of his predecessor. While waiting for the vacancy, Denat adventured as a warrior.

[AD&D-Specific] Denat al-Airdia, human male, height 6'5", weight 225 lb. Str 18 Dex 11 Con 16 Int 16 Wis 15 Cha 11, Align LN, Hp 85. Cleric, level 16, casting spells up to 5th level; Fighter, level 17.

More information may follow in due course.

The Temple of Teus the Wise

Teus the Wise is a lawful good deity much honoured in Atlantis.

Te Kartony, High Priest of Teus the Wise, is by far the wisest priest in Atlantis but is otherwise unexceptional.

[AD&D-Specific] Te Kartony the Wise, human male, height 5'10", weight 162 lb. Str 11 Dex 13 Con 10 Int 13 Wis 21 Cha 13, Align LG, Hp 51. Cleric, level 14, casting spells up to 7th level.

More information may follow in due course.

The Temple of Nakikha the Generous

Nakikha the Generous is a neutral good deity honoured in Atlantis.

The current High Priestess of Nakikha the Generous, Ayer Oxmzoabazumity, is a relative nonentity. Her temple remains noteworthy because it is in the central part of Atlantis.

[AD&D-Specific] Ayer Oxmzoabazumity, human female, height 6'0", weight 142 lb. Str 11 Dex 16 Con 11 Int 12 Wis 11 Cha 10, Align NG, Hp 41. Cleric, level 12, casting spells up to 5th level.

More information may follow in due course.

The Temple of Zeus

Zeus is not a popular deity with residents of Atlantis, but the Temple of Zeus is extremely popular with visitors to the city as Zeus is one of the few deities honoured in the city whom visitors have heard of. The temple and priesthood are chaotic good, but all are welcome.

The current High Priest of Zeus, Orichey Jamon, is a retired adventurer whose active promiscuity does not interfere too much with his religious duties.

[AD&D-Specific] Orichey Jamon, human male, height 6'2", weight 198 lb. Str 15 Dex 9 Con 13 Int 16 Wis 17 Cha 13, Align CG, Hp 68. Fighter, level 15, Cleric, level 17, casting spells up to 6th level.

The Temple of Na the Foolish

Na the Foolish advocates being nice to people even if you have never met them before. What could be more foolish than that? Giving alms to the poor, perhaps? Na the Foolish advocates that too.

Na the Foolish is surprisingly popular with the lowest rank of the Atlantean aristocracy, the Counts and their families. It is customary to make a donation to Na the Foolish after losing a particularly silly bet.

The Temple of Na the Foolish holds frequent festivals. People attending them are expected to be silly. And why not? There are plenty of other places in Atlantis they could go to if they wanted to be sensible.

The current High Priest of Na the Foolish, Henez ar-Inompho, chases women as much as Orichey Jamon but takes it less seriously.

[AD&D-Specific] Henez ar-Inompho, human male, height 5'9", weight 179 lb. Str 12 Dex 10 Con 14 Int 8 Wis 17 Cha 15, Align CG, Hp 43. Cleric, level 12, casting spells up to 6th level.

The Temple of Nobody

The facts are clear. Worship is good for you. It relieves stress and restores confidence. But Gods are bad for you. When was the last time you heard anything good described as the Will of the Gods?

Even the priests of Poseidon will tell you that Nobody is more powerful than Poseidon. So let us worship Nobody!

The sacred book of Nobody contains 136 pages. All of them are blank. You can write on them if you like, but it is not required. You must do what you believe is right, not put your faith in others.

The current High Priestess of Nobody is Zelleatina ar-Frandeark. She will tell you to ignore everything she tells you. You must do what you believe is right, not put your faith in others, especially not her.

[AD&D-Specific] Zelleatina ar-Frandeark, human female, height 5'7", weight 131 lb. Str 7 Dex 12 Con 13 Int 16 Wis 15 Cha 12, Align CN, Hp 48. Cleric, level 13, casting spells up to 5th level.

More information may follow in due course. Until then, remember to trust Nobody.

The Temple of Po the Demonic

Po the Demonic is a chaotic evil deity honoured in Atlantis.

The High Priest of Po the Demonic is Haroich Agreus. He adventured as a warrior while waiting for a vacancy in the higher ranks of the priesthood.

[AD&D-Specific] Haroich Agreus, human male, height 6'3", weight 206 lb. Str 18 Dex 13 Con 14 Int 13 Wis 15 Cha 11, Align CE, Hp 39. Cleric, level 11, casting spells up to 5th level; Fighter, level 12.

More information may follow in due course.

The Temple of Akshar the Maleficent

Akshar the Maleficent is a neutral evil deity honoured in Atlantis.

The High Priestess of Akshar the Maleficent is St Jealjamas. She is in truth even more scary than Nazencette Alaradhu (see below). Unlike most evil people, St Jealjamas believes in evil as a philosophy and does evil deeds for the sake of it rather than for any personal benefit.

[AD&D-Specific] St Jealjamas the Maleficent, human female. Str 15 Dex 15 Con 14 Int 11 Wis 17 Cha 12, Align NE, Hp 74. Fighter, level 18, Cleric, level 20, casting spells up to 6th level.

More information may follow in due course.

The Temple of Johark the Diabolical

Johark the Diabolical is a lawful evil deity honoured in Atlantis.

The current High Priestess of Johark the Diabolical, Nazencette Alaradhu, is scary. No-one argues with her.

[AD&D-Specific] Nazencette Alaradhu, human female, height 6'0", weight 171 lb. Str 16 Dex 12 Con 18 Int 14 Wis 16 Cha 13, Align LE, Hp 77. Cleric, level 18, casting spells up to 5th level.

More information may follow in due course.

The Temple of Vulcan

Atlanteans regard Vulcan and Zeus as enemies, and on this basis believe Vulcan to be lawful evil. Like Zeus, Vulcan is not a popular deity with residents of Atlantis, but the Temple of Vulcan is popular with visitors to the city as Vulcan is one of the few deities honoured in the city whom visitors have heard of. Vulcan is especially popular with oriental visitors.

The current High Priestess of Vulcan, Unsha Roisadhuuline, comes from Pener, a city in the far east. Her son Unshar and daughter Unshikha are well-known adventurers; both nominally still live in Pener when they are not adventuring. Unsha is unpopular with native Atlanteans but has a strong following among oriental immigrants.

[AD&D-Specific] Unsha Roisadhuuline, human female, height 5'11", weight 128 lb. Str 14 Dex 10 Con 9 Int 8 Wis 12 Cha 12, Align LE, Hp 48. Cleric, level 13, casting spells up to 5th level.

More information may follow in due course.

The Temple of Kaieak the Navigator

Kaieak the Navigator, a lawful evil deity whose sphere of influence is the protection of seamen, is popular with lower-class mariners but not with the middle and upper classes (who honour Poseidon instead). As a result, the Temple of Kaieak the Navigator is the poorest of the major temples in Atlantis. Its temple prostitutes, although no less enthusiastic than those at any other temple, are the least attractive and least skillful.

The current High Priestess of Kaieak the Navigator, Trecalina Tegrenne, looks forward to the prophesied day when a powerful adventurer will convert to the faith and restore the temple's fortunes. Who knows? The prophesied powerful adventurer may be a player character.

[AD&D-Specific] Trecalina Tagrenne, human female, height 5'8", weight 143 lb. Str 8 Dex 7 Con 16 Int 12 Wis 11 Cha 11, Align LE, Hp 67. Cleric, level 11, casting spells up to 5th level.
