The Tomb
of Musapak Shaheed in the town of Uch was built when Uch was an important
Sufi center, during the time of the Delhi Sultanate. The tomb is situated
at the east of uch sharif. Now it,s realy very difficult for an out sider
to find the tomb because of the bazaar around the tomb, even some of the resident
of uch don’t know about the tomb. People knows about the tomb of Hazrat
Saytad Muhammad Ghaus Bandagi who was the fatherof Hazrat Musa Pake Shaheed.
It is a domed mausoleum based on an octagonal plan. Unfortunately, unlike
most of the other monuments in Uch, the Tomb of Musapak lacks any clear inscriptions.
People of uch says that the workers (Masons) were called from multan to construct
the tomb and they never went back. They gave their whole life to uch.
The tomb consist of an approximately hemispherical, slightly-pointed dome
on an octagonal drum over a square or octagonal chamber, with round corner
towers, slightly tapered towards the top and sloped inwards. Externally, the
surfaces are decorated with striking bands of blue glazed tiles, alternating
with broad bands of lime plaster. Each of the round corner towers and smaller
turrets on the octagonal drum appear to have been crowned with elaborately
sculptured floral forms.The
height of the tomb is approximately 30feet that is divided in to three parts.
First part is an octagonal in which there are 8 arche sand 4 doors. Three
doors are temporarily closed because of some illegal constructionsaround the
tomb and the single door opens in the centre of the bazaar. The wooden door’s
and arches are beautifully carved.
The arches are treated with glazed tiles by different patrons. Between each
portion there is a design element and carved bricks applied.
Each portion is divided with wooden plank to support the foundation and to
change the pattern or angle or we can say to break the continuity of architecture.
The length of each plank is different according to the space for example in
the portion of octagonal it’s length is 8 feet approximately. The wood
surface treated very dramatically and the edges are also carved to fit them
esthetically and proportionally in the architecture. Interior of musa pak
shaheed 16 arches. The second portion of tomb is about 18 feet high from floor
and 9 feet from the diversion that is made by fixing wooden plank between
them. Its angles are doubled than first one. It have got 16 arches and 8 arches
are see through (windows).
The arches are around 6 feet high and 5 feet in width. Different design patrons
applied on both interior
and exterior of tomb with blue, green and brown glazed tiles. The design patron
represents the typical mughal and Islamic architecture. The same architecture
and bricks applied on some other tombs at uch like Baha-al-Halim), Bibi Jawindi
and Ustad Ladla. Some of the similler tomb are also seen at multan Pattern
applied around Buttress at exterior of Musa Pak Shaheed tomb. Although this
place is included in the list of world
Heritage but there is nothing being done so far. These unique and majestic
shrines, which are supposedly the most attractive archaeological sites in
Pakistan are crumbling down to dust due to negligence and improper care of
the concerned authorities.
Some 200 years ago, these buildings were destroyed by the change of course
of river and floods, which washed out most of the parts of the buildings.
The collapsed portions of the building should be completed on top priority
basis otherwise after few years we may not find any trace of these splendid
pieces of architecture. A renovation of the collapse min are tt of Chauburji
in Lahore and renovation Shahi Qila is the superb examples of estoration work.
Same methods should be practised here as this is the high time to save these
superb monuments.
