Chapter 1 |
"Star people
Counting your money till your soul turns green
Star people
Counting the cost of your desire to be seen
I do not count myself among you
I may be living a dream
Its just theres so many of you
Cant help but hope
Theres a difference between me and you"
Shane put the empty glass down as he looked around the room. People were standing around in groups, no doubt gossiping about this and that anything pointless they could come up with.
He hated show- biz parties. He hated them with passion. He wanted to be home. Home, with his horses, his family, his friends with Aoife. He missed them, he missed her. He knew she was getting tired of him, getting tired of waiting for him. And he was getting tired of being away.
He felt trapped. Felt like he had signed away 5 years of his life that would never end. Felt like there was absolutely no way out of this ongoing nightmare. Hed give anything to get back to his old life, lazy days in Sligo with the people he loved.
He searched the room for his band mates. He couldnt see anyone except Kian; they must have gone into another room. His eyes rested on Kian for a while. He was playing social butterfly, gracefully chatting away to a young female singer. Shane could see that Kian was bored out of his wits, but Kian was capable of engaging in any conversation with a pretended interest. Something Shane himself had never quite mastered.
He admired Kian for that. In fact, he admired Kian in many ways. He was just such a wonderful person. Loving, caring a heart of gold. And such strength. He had gone through so much in his life that any other person would have turned bitter by now. But not Kian.
Shane shook his head. It seemed Kian was occupying his mind a lot lately. Almost more than Aoife. Definitely more than Aoife. Could he be falling for Kian? No. No! Well, why not? He scolded himself. He loved Aoife. Not Kian. No, not Kian.
He made his way towards the bar to get another drink. Emerging from his little corner into the mass of people he suddenly felt claustrophobic. It was like the room was getting smaller and within minutes he would be squashed in the middle of all those people.
He felt dizzy. Everything was spinning and he lost focus of anything around him. Then it just went black.
