Major Frank Waller
Major Frank Waller, KStJ, who died 17 October 1988, was a member of the Heraldry Council of South Africa and served as
chairman of the HSSA from its inception in 1953 to ’57.
The bookplate illustration shows his shield with a white (silver) cross behind it, indicating him as a Knight of St John. The blazon of the arms reads:
Arms: Argent, a griffin
segreant Gules, armed and langued Azure, on a chief embattled Sable two swords
in saltire proper, pommelled and hilted Or.
Crest: A demi-griffin
Gules, armed and langued Azure, collared per fess embattled Sable and Argent,
grasping with the dexter claw a sword erect pommelled and hilted Or and resting
the sinister on a fleur-de-lis per pale Gules and Or.
Motto: Fideliter et Fortiter.
