Mythology in a Galaxy Far, Far Away

The Hero Journey

In creating Star Wars, Lucas drew great inspiration from Joseph Campbell's writings about mythology, such as The Hero With a Thousand Faces - the idea that all the world's myths tell the same basic story of the Hero's Journey. It's the journey that turns farm boys into Jedi Knights and mercenary smuggler pilots into Rebel heroes...

ArthurOdysseus

That made Arthur the Once and Future King...

That brought Odysseus to Troy and back home again through many obstacles...

That sent Jason seeking the Golden Fleece...

And Gilgamesh seeking the mysteries of life and death.
