These are some of my favorites lists of various musical genres. I know that some of the midis are very poor imitations of the original songs, but they are only meant to jog your memory if you can't really remember the song, or give you an idea if you have never heard it. Here are the compilations that I currently am working on:
|
Christian - This is memory lane for me. |
Eighties - I never turned the dial from a Christian station 'til I was 16 (and at first it was only for Rush Limbaugh, not that there is anything wrong with him, it's just that he's more one-sided entertainment than anything else), therefore I never heard the '80s during the '80s. I've since begun to listen to a wide variety of music, and '80's is just my current fancy. These favorites are not connected with memories (one exception) and this is a list compiled according to pure musical response as determined by fresh ears. I know many people HATE '80s, but most of them liked it at one time. To those people I say: I just might get over this someday; especially if I'm allowed to get it out of my system now.
Classic Rock - My dad has spent most of his life finding some outlet for his rock drumming abilities, so I've actually grown up with this stuff. However, I never really started paying attention to it until a couple years ago, so it is also something new to me. I still like 80's better though. |
Classical/Instrumental/Jazz - My parents met through music. My mom played classical piano and flute, and then rock organ and flute in bands with my dad. I tended to pay more attention to the classical stuff when I was younger. Now my sister has the bug and plays piano, and last summer she started violin lessons.
|
Oldies - the first music I began to listen to, on my own, besides Christian.
Electronic/Techno - I'm just starting to get into this. So far I have only that site, I actually found it just looking for Kurt Bestor/Sam Cardon MIDI's. I especially like Children2, Frozen, On Til Morning, and Tour de France.
Karaoke - At first I thought this was going to be alot of fun, but it looks more and more like alot of work. Maybe if/when I get more storage space on this site, and a better recording set-up at home, I will return. For now (and probably to stay this way for quite some time), I have only: |
An a capella clip of me forgetting the words to Toto's Hold the Line
Berlin's Take my Breath Away Part A and Part B, I sped this one up slightly (I just sounded better). If you have the ability to speed it up more it's also quite funny munchkinized...(a piece of advice, if you're using headphones: turn down the volume or the distortion will kill you).
Who needs karaoke? Now that I've done my first gig - sort of. Actually, my dad and some of his buddies from work were doing this classic rock thing for the company Christmas party being held Dec. 7th @ the Warehouse (classic rock in an art gallery - don't ask me how it happened). The evening of Dec. 5th my dad came to me and said that there was no vocal talent in the group and that I had to come help them out. How could I refuse? Flattery gets people everywhere. I did my best to learn some of the songs and ended up doing alot of back-up, which I don't like because I'm just more of a solo sort of person. I never could quite seem to do the back-up stuff the way it needed to be and it was very confusing. But who listens to back-up? Not me, obviously. However, I simply added a 2nd voice to Play that Funky Music on the choruses (that was FUN!), and then I had Rock 'n' Roll by Led Zeppelin all to myself. Although I prefer stuff that is dynamic and soulish like that song, it still is not my usual fare, and anyway that was the first time I'd ever worked with a live band. Still, everybody was very impressed and said I nailed it...the fact that they'd had a couple drinks couldn't have had anything to do with it...anyway, there was a little camcorder set-up so maybe I can get MP3 to put here. Also, my dad played wipeout...on his face. Maybe I can get MPEG of that.
