Notes:1. This story takes place in an alternative universe (everything the same as the original story, until the Battle City arc). Though, Ishisu did tell Kaiba Seto and Yugi about their Egyptian history and warned them for Marik and his Rarehunters, but not about the Egyptian God-cards. No Egyptian God-cards, no Battle City.
I hope it makes sense. ^_^;;
2. I use the Japanese names. (Ta = Anzu, Joei = Jounochi, Tristan = Honda) Except the Spirit of the Millennium puzzle who Ill just be referring as Yami. (In the Japanese episodes Yugi calls him mou hitori no boku (other me) and the bad guys call him nameless pharaoh (forgot the Japanese version)).

~ Yami no Tenshi ~
~ Prologue ~
Unnoticed by the crowd, she had wandered through the school like a vague shadow. Although she was a head taller then most of the girls in school, she looked exactly the same. The eternal, standard uniform, a heavy bookcase over her shoulder and short hair which loosely fell over the sides of her face.
Yugi hadnt noticed her either until she suddenly stood in front of the class. Her name was written on the blackboard with large, white, crayon stripes: Gabrielle Benu. A new student.
~ Chapter 1: Gabrielle Benu ~
The school-bell still resounded in his ears when he let himself fall on the bed tiredly. The school-day was finally over. And it had been as boring as all the other days before. School was boring. Why? Because new things rarely happened. Everybody, including Yugi, had hoped the new student to make their day a little more interesting It had been a great disappointment. The new girl was so silent and inconspicuous that it was as if she wasnt even there.
Yugi looked up to check the clock: 15:46.
In thirty minutes he would meet Jounochi, Anzu and Honda in the restaurant downtown.
He sat up and looked about. Yami sat in his transparent form on the edge of Yugis wooden desk and silently stared at the floor. Yugi frowned.
Whats wrong? he asked the spirit of the Millennium puzzle.
Yami looked up and shook his head. Nothing is.
I rarely see you lost in thought like that, Yami. the little boy responded, What is it that bothers you?
The spirit smiled faintly. Im not sure. he answered, Its just a feeling that has been haunting me all day. I dont know what to think of it.
A feeling? Yugi asked, trying to make the spirit tell more about it.
Yes. Like that time when the Rarehunters were about to steal the Millennium puzzle. It doesnt feel exactly the same, but I know it has something to do with my past.
Yugi stood up and walked to Yami. He looked him in the eyes and said convincingly: I dont know what the future will bring this time, but Im sure we can handle it!
The spirit of the Millennium puzzle smiled reassured.
If I dont go now, Yugi said and pointed at his clock, Ill be late.
Yami shook his head as he watched Yugi walk to the bedroom-door. His aibou obviously wasnt worried. Maybe he shouldnt be either He smiled and disappeared, returning to his soul-room inside the Millennium Puzzle.
The sun had begun to set and a red glow coloured the empty streets. Most people were still busy with their jobs and wouldnt fill the streets until a couple of hours.
Yugi pulled the collar of his jacket closer around his neck. It was winter, the season with the coldest and shortest days. At least where he lived. Winter wasnt so different from the summer in countries near the equator.
He had to hurry a little. The restaurant was just a few more streets away, but he only had a few minutes left. And he didnt want to be late.
Suddenly he felt a strong hand grabbing his collar and pulling him back. Startled, Yugi reached for his collar, trying to regain his breath, but the hand of the stranger refused to let his grip weaken.
Well, well, a familiar voice spoke, look who weve got here. Long time no see!
The little boy recognised the voice immediately. It belonged to the biggest bully in school: Taro!
 Kuso! he cursed.
You wouldnt happen to have some money for poor, little, old me would you? the voice asked sarcastically and chuckled.
The bully turned Yugi around and lifted him into the air almost. There was a hideous grin on his large face.
 Well, do you? he repeated.
No. Yugi answered with a soft, suffocated voice.
Too bad, he said and drew a fist which he pulled behind his ear, You shouldve.
Grrr. a voice suddenly sounded and two hands grabbed the wrist of the tall guy.
He turned his head to see where the growl had come from and who was holding his wrist.
What?! he cried out furiously, Not you again!
The other person chuckled. Yugi could not see him very well. All he could see were a pair of black shoes, long, dark pants with small buckles on the side from halfway up the upper-leg to the ankles, and a part of a long, dark purple coat.
The tall guy threw Yugi on the ground with a powerful movement and turned to the stranger. Yugi gasped when he landed on the hard, cold concrete and dazedly watched Taro approach the stranger. He was too confused to run or even move. It wasnt a daily thing, being saved by a stranger. He hadnt even thought it possible. These days most people only thought about their own safety.
Dont you have a life? Go bother someone else! Taro shouted.
The other person chuckled again and spoke with a voice unknown to Yugi: Look whos talking. I could say the same to you
This made the bully even more angry than he already was. He threw a fist at the stranger and obviously hit him before he could react, because the stranger almost tumbled over. When he regained his balance, he immediately jumped at his attacker. But Taro caught him in mid-air. The power of the two colliding forces struck the stranger as his body moved forward and the hands of his enemy pushed him in the opposite direction, causing him to gasp while the cap of his coat fell over his face. And thus preventing Yugi from seeing it.
Yugi knew he shouldve used this moment to get away, but there was something that kept him from moving besides his confusion. Something that told him to stay and watch. For some reason this seemed strangely familiar.
The stranger hang in the air with one hand of the bully holding his coat near his neck and the other holding his arm. The stranger in the long, purple coat effortlessly kicked in the air, trying to hit his opponent, before planting his teeth in the hand of his attacker.
The bully shouted in pain and threw him away. The person landed with his face on the concrete. After a short, agonised cry, he jumped up and made a movement that looked like a flying kick to the bullys chest in one fluid motion. The tall guy fell backward and glared at his attacker.
Forget it! he shouted, Ive got better things to do than to fight with a squirt like you.
The excuse was pathetic, since the stranger was almost as tall as he was.
The stranger did not respond to it and threw back the cap of his coat. Yugi could still not see his face though, only the back of his head, which was covered with dark blond hair reaching the bottom of his neck, where it jumped back up again.
Taro walked back a few steps, before turning about to run away.
The stranger snorted mockingly, watching the bully flee, and turned about.
Yugis eyes widened it surprise The stranger was a she! Taro, the biggest bully in school was afraid of a girl! How was that possible?!
Hey there. the girl said and offered her hand to the little boy. Her voice was soft.
She mustve noticed Yugi backing away a bit, because she smiled ensuring and said: Relax. I dont bite!
 You just did. Yugi responded.
Youre right! she laughed sheepishly and rubbed her neck, Okay. So I wont bite you.
She reached out her hand again and this time Yugi grabbed it. The girl in the purple coat pulled him up and smiled at him. Yugi tried to smile back, but he was too confused. First, someone had saved him from being beaten up by the schools biggest bully, and then it turned out to be a cheerful girl who was just a few years older than he was. Plus, he had the strange feeling he knew
her from somewhere.
Youre bleeding. he noted when he studied her face.
Uh., she responded and examined her face with her hand.
A trace of blood ran down from the corner of her mouth and there was a small cut above her eyebrow, which was covered up by her short, dark blonde hair. Considering how she had been tossed around, her injuries here remarkably few.
Itll heal. she said, How are you?
Im fine thanks to you. he answered, Arigatou.
 Dont mention it.
You get beaten up for someone you dont know, and you say Dont mention it?! Yugi cried out in amazement.
He, he. she laughed sheepishly and tugged on her scarf, Im insane, I know!
Yugi smiled.
And Im making myself look like a total idiot! she continued, speaking more to herself now.
Yugi! a familiar voice shouted, interrupting their conversation.
Er? Yugi and the girl said at the same time.
There were three people running in their direction.
Hey guys! the little boy exclaimed happily.
 Are you okay? Jounochi asked.
How did you find me? Yugi asked, while nodding in response to blonde boys question.
And why did you come searching for him in the first place? the dark blond girl added.
Yugi blinked his eyes in confusion for a moment. Not because of her question, but because of the expression on her face. There was nothing left of the cheerful girl from earlier.
// As if she switched souls, ne? \\ Yami asked smilingly, reading his others confusion.
/ Ee. \ he answered, but knew that was impossible. There was no sign of a Millennium Item.
You were late and we saw Taro coming from this direction. We thought something might have happened to you. Anzu answered.
Yugi smiled and shook his head. Nothing has happened to me. She saved me.
He pointed to the girl in the long, dark purple coat. She silently waved her hand to them, when they looked at her in amazement.
You faced Taro and won?! Honda asked confusedly, speaking for the whole group.
She nodded.
No way! Youre way too weak! Jounochi blurted out.
Watch it, Jounochi the girl warningly hissed at him.
Now everybody looked at her even more confused.
What! Are you psychic, or something? Jounochi asked. That might explain how she won.
The girl frowned and pushed away his pointing finger. No. Why?
 Because you know my name.
Its hard not to know it. she answered dryly, You draw a lot of attention in class. People may not notice me, but I do notice them.
 in class?
Suddenly all the pieces of the puzzle fell into place.
Youre the new student! Yugi exclaimed, Gabrielle, right?
 Yep! No doubt about it.
A loud bell rang once and overpowered all the sounds in the quiet street.
Gabrielles head jerked up to watch the clock in the tower. It was now 16:30.
Shimatta! Im going to be late! she cried out and ran away shed forgotten all about Yugi and his friends.
What was that all about? Jounochi asked himself aloud.
To Be Continued
Okay I hope that wasnt too boring. It will become a lot more exciting soon, I promise, but I need a good foundation first.
