Chapter 26

         
"Ok, so everyone knows the plan? We throw a smoke bomb in the middle of the halls and we all run along the left side of the hall, you got that? The left side of the hall." Chris explained. Everyone was rested up, starving, but still rested. Everyone had their guns out, and a couple of bombs, just in case.          

Addison suggested in having a partner system. Where we would join up with a partner as we bail from this room, and into the smoke. The pairs were almost predetermined. Jenn was with Jennifer, Addison was with Callie, Mac and Conner were together, Chris had Kayleigh, and Brent and me are partners. The only person without a partner was Rick, yet, he seemed ok with that.          

"Remember, the left side of the hall," Chris repeated. He then nodded to everyone and then Mac and Connor where ready with the door, Mac with the smoke bomb while Connor would open the door. Chris then said silently, "Jesus Christ, I hope this works."          

Everything happened so fast, the doors flew open and the smoke bomb had already taken effect. Brent was quickly dragging me behind him, and I was trying to catch up with him, although he was incredibility fast!          

The smoke was thick. I could hardly even see Brent, who was pulling me with him. But this seemed so familiar to me� as if this had happened to me before. Oh my god�          

I remember now! The day that I convinced myself that I had skipped a class! The endless place with never-ending fog! And there was a monster there, a creature that mysteriously died by something.          

Then a familiar howl roared, and for a moment, I actually felt as if I was in that endless place. Although, thanks to Brent's hand pulling me along, I was brought back to reality. Although, that howl continued.          

"Oh shit�" The monsters were still here.          

Instantly, I knew something was dreadfully wrong. I stopped and Brent looked at me with a confused face. Almost instantly, we both heard Callie screamed. We both looked towards the direction from where it came from. I ran towards the endless screaming of Callie terrifying screams.          

I was breaking the routine of escape, and I knew this. Stay to the left wall and don't let go of your partner, one man for himself. Screw that. I'm not about to lose another person in this hellhole!          

I finally reached the source of the screams. Oh dear god� I had found Callie, although the giant Armored Cyclops was holding her as if she was a Barbie doll! He was squeezing her to death!          

Addison had been in front of me, although his gun was crushed before his own feet. He held a bomb in his hand, but I knew he wouldn't dare throw it and risk hurting his very own sister. I took out my gun and started to aim carefully at the monster and not at Callie. I shoot, and I heard a bang. Crap, I hit its armor!          

I tried to aim again, somewhere else on its body, like the folds of his armor. But when I shot, I wasn't on target and it rebounded awfully close to Callie. Addison yelled at me, "Goddamn it, AIM RACHEL!! You almost hit my sister then the monster!"          

I tried aiming once again, but the longer it takes me to aim properly, the harder the Cyclops is squeezing Callie! I hate being under pressure! I hate it ever so much! Callie's life depends on this shot!          

This isn't like the movies. Where one famous sentence "It all depends on this" brings about a happy ending. Where the girl who can't aim, actually hits the target. No. Reality is much harsher on us.          

I missed. I missed horribly. So I tried again. But this time, when I fired. It wasn't a bang, but a click. Shit. I'm out of bullets. Addison must have noticed, for he screamed out his sister's name. But did nothing further.          

Brent somehow found us through the fog. He quickly brought his shotgun as soon as he saw the situation. He started to take aim and was hoping he would hit something that would actually harm the demon. He shot, but like all other attempts before him, the bullets didn't even dent him.          

Tears were falling from Callie's eyes as she screamed without sound. Here before her, powerless to stop her pain. Tears weren't only falling from her eyes, but of mines and her brother. �Tears? That's it!          

"Brent! Aim for his eye! His eye!" I shouted. He quickly aimed to the Cyclops eye and fired. A loud and horrible sound came from the Cyclops as he dropped the suffocating Callie and covered his only bloody eye. BINGO! Right on the target!          

The Cyclops staggered about for a few seconds before he started to lean towards Callie. With one final attempt, he's going to end the life of Callie by killing her with his own lifeless body. "NO!"          

~~~~~~~ Alternate Ending~~~~~~          

I dashed to Callie and fearing that I wouldn't get to her on time. I jumped. I jumped to her. And what I knew what was seconds felt like hours. I flew across the floor, and slid on the waxed ground.          

I did manage to push her out of the way. Unfortunately, I wasn't so lucky. The titanic Armored Cyclops did kill a human. That human was me.          

With only my head sticky out and starring at the fading ceiling, I said out loud with my last bit of life, "I'm so sorry� I couldn't keep � my promise��..brother�" As the life drained out of my body, one final tear came down my face and hit the ground.

Eric picked up the Rachel's necklace that had mysteriously broke from around his neck. Megan looked down to him as his face was shocked, "What's wrong?" Eric stood up, looking confused and worried at the necklace, "The jewel� It's shattered."

AUTHOR'S NOTE (Aqua) - Well, this isn't what I had originally wanted this to end. As you can see, it's marked as Alternate Ending. The story was planned to be quite longer, although the story has lost its spark to me. So I'm finishing it and probably won't be working on it for a long time. This is very bad for those who were actually paying any attention to this story. Because I left a lot of open questions, like the deal with Rick/Kayleigh and whether they get out of the Demon High school. I might in the future work on this when I have nothing better to do or something, if people REALLY want me to continue, or if something sparks in this story again. Till then. I'm working on a new story that will be much better then this because this was done since 1999 to 2004. Long time. But I learned a good deal from this to make better stories. So I hope you like my next story. ^_^
