This is one of Apulia's most popular tourist spots. It owes its fame to the complex of about 1400 trulli-recognised by UNESCO as part of humanity's and historic heritage-found in the districts of Monti and Ala Piccola.
The trullo is an extremely ancient, traditional buildings, made completely from stone and comprises a cylinder capped by a cone-shaped roof, the latter crowned by an ornamental pinnacle formed by three overlaid rocks. In some cases the "roof" bears marks made with whitewash that, linked to pagan and Christian rites, seem to have magic-propitiatory significance. The most famous buildings include the Siamesi trulli, an ancient and unique double construction, and the Sovrano trullo (eighteenth-century), a unique example built on two floors with a dual vault.
