| I am crazy about music - anything that's worth hearing. It doesnt matter if its hard rock or a soft love song, if its a traditional song or a remix - I dont mind as long it is really WORTH HEARING. I didnt realise that I had such a varied taste to music until I did my singing course in Karnatic Music a long long time back. After my course, which lasted a terrible four years, I viewed music in a very different perspective. I listened to voices, to beats, to strings, to something deep in music rather than just the song outwardly. I dont bother about the singer's past life, present and future life, what scandals the person's been through or how good-looking that person is. It was music, just music that mattered to me. So I never bothered about anything else other than just music - be it any language, any style. I have so far listened closely to English, Tamil, Hindi, Spanish and Amharic songs. My favourites are mainly concentrated in English, and fairly distributed in the rest of the languages. I grew up with the beats of Michael Jackson on "Beat It". Mom used to tell me that she used to turn on the radio before she put me to sleep when I was a baby and I knew "Beat It" so well that I used to run to the radio when that song came on. "Beat It" was one of the few words I spoke even as a baby, the very first full sentence being, "I'VE LOST THE WILL TO LIVE!" Michael Jackson is just amazing, I can tell you. When I talk of a person, I talk only in the sense of music, not of the person. He is surely the King of Pop. His music is something that has had a strong imprint on everyone. My favourites of his songs are "Beat It", "Thriller", "Dangerous", "Remember the Time", "You are not alone", "They dont care about us", "Will you be there", "Black or White", "Heal the World". I was in Ethiopia for sometime and I was captured by their music, both traditional and pop. There was one particular guy, Teddy Afro (actual name, Tewodros Kassahun), who was very popular that time. All of his songs were hits and were played in about every place in town. There are so many others I like, unfortunate that I dont know the names of the albums, thanks to the language and the big communication gap I had with people. |
