After a thrilling 5th Test Match won by England, it is time for the white-ball series between England and India. The scheduling of this series has meant that India's squad for the first T20 international is the same as what played against Ireland but it will change from the second match on.
England is going to be led by Jos Buttler after Eoin Morgan retired from international cricket and will be looking to make the most of a golden generation of English white-ball players. With the T20 World Cup 2022 just a few months away, the T20 series is perhaps more important than any other format.
All the best cricket betting sites have England as the slight favorites to win this match. That could be down to the inexperience in India's squad but make no mistake, this is not a 'weak' or 'second-string' Indian team. This will be a tough fight and we are hoping to uncover some excellent betting markets for the same.
Match prediction and cricket betting tips for England vs India 1st T20 2022. The match is going to be played at The Rose Bowl, Southampton on the 7th of July 2022.
England has named Jos Buttler as their white-ball captain and it will be very interesting to see if Buttler's performances will be affected or if he changes his role to suit the needs of the team. Not a single player involved in the Test Series has been named for the T20 internationals. Also, there are a number of players like Jofra Archer, Tom Curran, Saqib Mahmood, Mark Wood, Adil Rashid, and Chris Woakes that are not available for selection for various reasons.
The fact that England still goes in as favorites shows just how deep a talent pool it has at the moment.
We think the England batting order is going to have Buttler and Roy opening the inning followed by Malan, Livingstone, Ali, and Brook. Phil Salt could be the one to miss out among the players named. This is a super strong top-6 with Buttler (possibly the best T20 batsman in the world) leading the way.
A record-breaking IPL season where Buttler smashed four centuries and batted with the utmost ease will fill him with confidence. Perhaps the most dangerous batter in this lineup is Liam Livingstone. His ability to strike sixes at will from the time he walks in makes him an immense asset to have.
Also, Brook has been scoring runs at a phenomenally consistent rate and is perfectly suited to play the role of a finisher if required.
Sam Curran and David Willey might both play to extend the batting depth even further! Chris Jordan and Matt Parkinson are the other two bowlers we expect to see in the eleven for the first match. Tymal Mills and Reece Topley (both left-handed fast bowlers as well) can easily slot in if needed.
England's strengths are six-hitting, getting big totals, and batting depth. We will look for betting markets that take advantage of these things.
Jason Roy, Jos Buttler, Dawid Malan, Moeen Ali, Liam Livingstone, Harry Brook, Sam Curran, Chris Jordan, Tymal Mills, Reece Topley, Matt Parkinson.
India's T20 team for the first match is not going to be bothered about what happened in the Test Match since none of the players were a part of it. Also, Rohit Sharma is back as captain and will be able to disassociate himself from external distractions to focus his team on the job at hand.
India won the two T20 internationals against Ireland quite comprehensively. It also won the two T20 warm-up matches against Derbyshire and Northamptonshire. Now, however, is when the real challenge starts.
Rohit Sharma is likely to open the batting with Ishan Kishan. An excellent opening partnership that has shown intent to score quickly in the powerplay even if it means a drop in the overall individual averages. Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Hardik Pandya, and Dinesh Karthik should form the rest of the batting lineup.
There is a lot of fluidity here and we can see players moving up or down as required. The lack of a left-hander in the middle order is one area where India lacks right now. The form of Deepak Hooda and Hardik Pandya makes them obvious candidates to bet on in this match as well.
We think Axar Patel will be the designated all-rounder at 7 with Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, Avesh Khan, and Yuzvendra Chahal the four bowlers. In a lot of ways, this Indian team is probably better before the Test players return to the squad!
India's batting is strong but it will be tested by the short ball consistently. Rohit Sharma has been getting starts but the big scores have evaded him for a long time now. Similarly, India's bowling lineup is likely to be made up of medium-pacers that can be lined up by the English batters.
Yes, there is individual brilliance that can help India win but the task ahead seems quite tough at the moment.
Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Deepak Hooda, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Dinesh Karthik, Axar Patel, Harshal Patel, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh, YS Chahal.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to bat first. We have analyzed the most recent T20 Blast season where seven matches were played at the Rose Bowl, Southampton. Five out of those matches were won by the team that batted first and so there is a good chance that the team that wins the toss will do the same here.
Read our guide on toss predictions to learn how we analyze and come up with our tips.
The conditions in Southampton are expected to be excellent for cricket. There is no rain forecast and the pitch will be at its best as well! The pitch is usually good for batting with a little bit of extra bounce in the surface to help balance things out. The outfield at the Rose Bowl is quite large and so spinners can play a role.
A score of above 160 has been reached just four times in the previous ten innings played here and only once did the score go above 200.
It looks like a sore of around 160-170 is going to be quite competitive at this venue.

We are going to bet on England to win this match. We think it has the advantage in terms of batting strength, current form, as well as a clear idea of how to approach T20 batting. India's team is not weak and is certainly going to come hard at the English team but there are big question marks over their bowling and the form of some of their leading batters.
Bet on England to win.
Easily in the batting form of his life, Hardik Pandya is not going to bet lower than 5. In fact, he may bat higher if wickets don't fall. He can clear the boundaries with ease and is especially dangerous against the spinners. We are backing him to get more than 17.5 in this match.
Once again, we are banking ont he strong batting lineups taking part in this match to get us the win in this betting market. This is not a team or a player dependent bet and so any over that goes Over 19.5 is enough to help you win. With Buttler, Pandya, Kishan, and more such powerful batters, we think it is a bat worth serious consideration.
