It was actually a doll show at Expo
Centre, Karachi on the 25th of June 2006.
Me and my family reached there in the morning and my father went straight
to talk about my dolls to the incharge of the doll show. As I had already
registered my name, he told us to go to the hall on the second floor and
we quickly went upstairs to set the dolls. My dolls were categorized as
"Collectibles" as it contained all types of dolls, including the most
famous Ken & Barbie, Kevin, Disney's Tarzan, Disney's Pocahontas,
porcelain dolls, my own handmade project which I had made by collecting
different different materials, Barbie cups & glasses, dolls' accessories
and much more. I even had made my dolls' hairstyles and stitched their
clothes to give the western dolls an eastern touch, ofcourse by taking
help from my dear mom and aunts. I had also stuck a "Little Mermaid"
poster on my stall and even made a banner of my name on the stall. I
really enjoyed my first experience when visitors visited my stall and
appreciated. As it was my first experience I was really very nervous first
but gradually I became bold enough to face so many families, infact huge
crowds. Actually these are my parents who always encourage me and help me
in every walk of my life. I am really grateful to my dad who bought me all
these 42 dolls. And my mom who helped me a lot in everything- sewing of
the dolls' clothes, washing of the dolls' clothes, even in decorating my
stall and giving me ideas of everything. I also thank my dear brother who
is elder than me and although is having his eXams right now, but he just
came to help me. I thank my Khalas who helped in dress making and my aunt
to give a final touch to the dolls
and
for helping me in making nice and cute hairstyles. I showed the visitors
my Bride and Groom to whom I had given an Eastern look. People really
liked my stall specially my handmade project. Some of them even snapped my
stall's photos and some people were asking me “Aren’t they for sale?”
Oops!
I was very tired cause of this exhibition as I had to
stand up and explain each and every detail to each and every person but
enjoyed it as well.
Finally it was 7:00 pm, and the judges came. When they
came at my stall, I greeted them and they saw my stall and then moved to
another one. At 7:30 pm, the incharge told me to wind up all the s
tuff
back and I did so. Then we went downstairs. After some time there was an
announcement and the prize distribution of the winners. Rest of the
participants like me will be given certificates after some time. Although
I am not amongst the winners but the inexplicable happiness that arose in
my heart of participating and getting a chance to display my dolls is just
everything.
I am really very thankful to my family, my relatives,
aunts, and ofcourse the Expo team.
