In business class, we learnt how to write
CV and cover letter. It was useful.
Then in general class, we had test, including
written test and interview.
It was difficult, and while I was talking
with Suzanne during break time, Marcus came
up in long face.
"How was a test?" I asked.
He made a sigh.
" but you came to this class just last
week. You don't have to care about it so
seriously."
"I will be sent back to intermediate
class."
He was really depressed, and looked like
a child.
| 22.May.Tue. Culture differences |
We discussed about culture in general class:
population, history, location, currency,
sports, weather, army, food, entertainment
and so on.
We were told to make a question related the
above in a pair, and I did with Marcus.
We made simple questions as follow;
"How is the population in your
country?"
"What is your currency?"
As to army, I made a question, "Is there
military in your country?"
Marcus was surprised, "it is nonsense!
every country has military."
"but Japan lost the WWII, so must not
have usual army."
"No, it's impossible."
Sung, who sat next to me, laughed, "why
"impossible"?, she is a Japanese."
Next, food. Marcus made a childish smile
and said.
"Japanese eat a dog?"
"NO, some Asian people eat it
, but
Japanese never."
"No, you lie, Japanese eat it."
He repeated it as I denied.
He seemed to be delighted to make fun
of
me.
And such a manner looks so lovely for me.
After a boring business class about monopoly
of De Beers, I had a delightful general
class.
First, we did a listening practice.
Next, a practice of telephone conversation.
We pretended a hostmother and a student,
or a cinema officer and a customer,
or friends
who haven't met for 10 years, then
we continued
a conversation as long as possible.
I practiced with cheerful Marcus, so I laughed
many times.
