PROBABILITY RULES

Multiplication Rule (The “And” Rule)

For statistical independence events (where the occurrence of one event has no effect on the probability of the occurrence of any other event.)
P(A and B) = P(A) X P(B)
E.g. Records of service requests at a shop has the following probabilities:
Daily Request Probability
5 0.3
6 0.7

Daily request is independent. What is the number that over a two day period the number of request will be
a) 10, b) 11,
c) at least 11 requests?
