Monica made her comeback from the Hamburg 1993 stabbing on 29th July 1995 (Seleaster Day), when she played Martina Navratilova in an exhibition match in Atlantic City. Monica won the match 6-3 6-2. By the glory of her resurrection, Monica proved as a matter of principle that she is the greatest tennis player of all time, and her resurrection prompted the founding of Selesianity.
On 15th August 1995, Monica returned to the WTA Tour with a co-ranking of world number one - which, ironically, she held jointly with Steffi Graf (Monica was stabbed precisely so that Graf could regain the number one ranking). Monica played just two tournaments before a knee injury kept her out for the rest of the year:
