AroraBowl I ReportAroraBowl fever hit Gabalfa as the Subarnas Volcanoes squared off against the Akani Sands Destroyers for the right to be crowned the inaugural champions of Bettian Gridiron. The two sides had been by far the leading contenders for the title, both winning their respective conferences. In the quarter-final, Akani Sands squared off against a strong Sukatra Sabres side and came out on top after a bruising, hard-fought battle. Subarnas had things rather easier, cruising to a 45-7 victory against the Ceffinton Turbos. The semi-finals saw both teams playing away. The Destroyers travelled to Northern Conference champs Porthbalfa, coming away with a 17-6 win. Subarnas had a tougher proposition against the Gabalfa Gasheads, but managed a somewhat confortable 28-14 win. And so to the final, played at Gabalfa's Stadiwm Bettia. There was a great deal of pride and honour at stake, and so quite understandably this match started as quite a nervy affair. However, as the two teams settled down, they started to play the top-rate gridiron that they had exhibited all season long. This was an even, nip-and-tuck match right up until the final two minutes when the Volcanoes scored the decisive touchdown courtesy of star Quarterback Geraint Al-Shahaf's jinking solo run. Despite the Destroyers throwing everything they could, Subarnas held on to claim AroraBowl I for themselves. AroraBowl I Final Score
