Clodien

General Information

Provincial Capital: Akani Sands

Bettia's southern region, encompassing the south coastline and surrounding inland areas. Clodien boasts some glorious beaches and clean seas, making it an obvious choice for holidays and weekend breaks.

The region boasts excellent transport links. The International Highway (M1) runs through Clodien, providing a road link to Gabalfa and Kafra to the west, and Pylos and Hypocrium to the east. A new tunnel from Ryoga Bay provides a direct rail link to Spruitland.

Industries

Being a coastal region, one of Clodien's chief employers is the tourist industry, which is mainly centred around Akani Sands and the neighbouring towns.

The fishing industry also plays a large part of Clodien life, especially to the east of the province.

The inland parts to the west are home to a large agricultural industry thanks to the fertile soils and good climate in the area. Many of Bettia's crops are grown here, including dates, nuts and fruit.

Places of Interest

Akani Sands

Provincial captial of Clodien, Akani Sands was previously named 'Endunn', but locals voted to change the town's name in honour of the President's dead goldfish. It's beaches, piers, promenades and seaside attractions are very popular with Bettian families.

Aroraland

A new amusement park built just a few miles away from Akani Sands Airport. Star attractions include the Vomiting Dragon, a roller-coaster which includes ten loops and near-vertical drops, and races at speeds of up to 65mph.

Lorshill

Famous for the 200-acre Safari Park situated near the centre of the city, this was the scene of the infamous Aroras vs Lions episode which marked the Baptism of Fire clash between Bettia and Nedalia, where a pride of lions was released into the arora pen in order to see who would win. Ten minutes later, the Safari Park had no lions left - although the Nedalian government were gracious enough to present a new pride as a gift.

Ryoga Bay

Bettia's chief fishing port and home to the famed Ryoga Bay fish market, where Bettia's top restaurants purchase their seafood due to the generally excellent quality of its produce.

Hyppo Fernley

A small town which up until recently was simply called Fernley. However, it has become popular with herds of wild Hyppos crossing the border from Hypocria, and so the town's council took the decision to change it's name in the hope to attract more visitors in the same manner that Akani Sands has. This move has had a certain amount of success, attracting conservationists and wildlife lovers looking to spot an otherwise rare Hyppo in its natural habitat.

Environment & Climate

Being a coastal region, Clodien is relatively flat compared with the more inland provinces. As the eastern parts of the province reaches the foot of the Banastra hills, the terrain gently slopes upwards.

It's southern aspect gives Clodien a warmer climate than the rest of the country, and the island of Spruitland helps to 'mop up' any adverse weather coming in from the south.
