Consumption of the fluid of the large intestine

Clinical manifestations : Dry stools, constipation, dryness of the mouth and throat, a red tongue with little moisture or with a dry yellow coating and a thready pulse.

Etiology and pathology : The syndrome often occurs to people in old age, to women after delivery, or in the late stage of a febrile disease when there is consumption of body fluid. Insufficiency of fluid in the large intestine leads to dryness, thus constipation ensues. Dryness of the mouth and throat, a red tongue with little moisture or with a dry yellow coating and a thready pulse are all signs of deficiency type heat due to consumption of fluids.
