In acupuncture treatment of flaccid paralysis syndrome; "Yangming meridian is the only meridian which can be used". (Neijin, Canon o Internal Medicine). Enlightened by this principle, we treated 11 cases of arachnoidal adhesive paralysis that had been myelographically diagnosed boldly using Jiaji points and obtained quite satisfactory results. Of these cases, 5 were male and 6 female, age 17-54, location of pathological changes ranging from C;>-S].

Manipulation: Location and measurement of Jiaji points were made on the body surface: One cun (measuring by identical division) apart from Dumai and parallel to the pit between two spinous processes. There were 60 jiaji points in all, 30 on either side of the vertebra. Of these, 8 pairs are on the cervical column, 12 pairs on the thoracic column, 5 pairs on the lumbar column and 5 on the sacral column. Needles were slanted to the ring-like cartilage with the patient's marked needling sensation. The result was better when such sensation shot to farther area. If necessary, some supplementary points were used. Needles were pricked quickly into these points like the way of birds peck without rotating and retention of the needles, mainly for stimulation, The patients received the treatment once daily, one month for a course, 3-5 days interval between two courses of treatment.

Results. 3 patients fully recovered with ability to work; patients' condition remarkably improved with ability to take care of himself; 4 were relieved of their main symptoms with their passive postures changed to initiative; 2 failed to complete the treatment and one died of lung cancer.

Mechanism. According to the theory of meridians, the points selected in this group were between Dumai and the Urinary Bladder meridian." Dumai controls Yang of the whole body." The Urinary Bladder meridian ran from head to foot, which was very beneficial to get rid of humidity and heat of Yangming meridian. The coordination of the two meridians effects both a temporary relief and permanent cure of the disease. From the viewpoint of neurophysiology, the needling stimulation of distributive areas of the relevant spinal ganglion may bring about a radical cure or relief of flaccid paralysis syndrome by the stimulation of nervous reflexes and neurohumoral regulation, for improving the state of nerval nutrition, making inflammation diminished, adhesion absorbed, Ihe intervertebral pressure decreased thus constriction removed.
