EFFECT OF POINT PHOTOCAUTERIZED WITH MOXIBUSTION THERAPEUTIC DEVICE ON THE IMMUNE FUNCTION OF THE AGED

This article recorded and narrated about the changes in absolute value of peripheral blood lymphocyte, serum IgG content and serum Cy complement for forty old people (60 -69 years old), who had no obvious organic diseases, not suffered from illness recently and not taken any medicine. They were administrated for photocauterization at points Guan-yuan, Baihui and Zusanli smeared with mugwort oil one body surface with the regular point moxibustion therapeutic device (it was jointly appraised and certificated in 1982 by the Education Department, Public Health Department and Medicine Administrative Bureau of Jilin Province).

Method

At first, 0.05 ml of mugwort oil was smeared around points Guanyuan, Baihui and Zhu-sanii (two sides) and then the points were photocauterized with the Regular Acupoint Moxibustion therapeutic Device (a photocauterized spot 1.0 cm in diameter) for 15 minutes, once daily for 15 days followed by next course of treatment after 7 days, and were photocauterized agains successfully for 15 times. 7th, 15th and 40th days before and after photocauterization were carried on respectively, and data were collected,

Result

Before and 40 days after photocauterization, absolute values of peripheral blood lymphocyte were 2131.73+577.45 and 2833.13±585.03n/mm3 respectively, the difference was very marked (P<0.01). Before photocauterization, immuned serum IgG, IgA and IgM content (single immunodiffusion) were 11.02+4.44, 1.35+1.06 and 0,98±0.64 mg/ml respectively, while 15th day after the photocauterization, they were 15.22+6.11, 5.11+1.55 and 1.61+0.92 mg/ml respectively, both differed greatly in comparison with each other (P<0.01). 15 days later, the three items of numeral values declined gradually. Among them IgA went down slowly by 40 days after the photocauterization. The value was higher than before 2.51 ±1.07 mg/ml (P<0.01), Serum Ca contents were 1.23+0.58 and 1.67+1.03 mg/'ml before and after 40 days the photocauterization respectively. There was a signigicant difference between both.

Thus, this shows that points Guanyuan, Baihui and Zhusanii when photocauterized with the regular acupoint moxibustion therapeutic device may strengthen the immune function of the aged. This kind of RAMTD may be used as an ideal medical device of the health care for old people. It is not only easy to needle but also cheap, hygienic and painless to the patients.
