The Authors considered that the pain threshold would not be enhanced with acupuncture only. It was suggested to combine acupuncture with anesthetics. The patients were divided into two groups:

The control group was given epidural anesthesia and the observation group acupunctural anesthesia combined with anesthetics.

The observation group was composed of 38 patients suitable to operation under electroacupunctural anesthesia in Jijian acupoint. After 15 minuts induction, anesthetics under threshold dosage was injected. The rate of success was 87%, average dose was 9.47ml, The control group was composed of 38 patients as well. The average dose was 24.5ml. To three of these cases a large dose of sedatives was added. Statistically, the value is equal to 14.705. The difference is obvious. We suppose there are three ways enhancing acupunctural effects:

1. To select the best acupoint.

2. To enhance patients' counterpain ability.

3. To combine acupuncture with anesthetics.

The authors consider that the third way is the best. Eleclroacupuncture excites the nerve fibers but can not excite nerve cells. Theoretically, the thinner the excited nerve fibers, the better the sedative effect. If acupuncture excited fibers III, sadative effect would be satisfactory. But in such cases patients would be uncomfortable and could not tolerate the stimulation.

As the time of stimulation went on, the patients were adaptable, but strength of stimulation was still limited.

The authors have concluded that selecting the parameter of stimulation which does not make patients uncomfortable and combining with the dose of anesthetics under threshold is the best way to enhance the acupuncture effect.
