1. The therapeutic method: Xi'an 795-type He-Ne Laser therapeutic instrument with wave-length of 6328A and output power 7 mW was selected. Regular acupoints, local lesions or painpoints were irradiated vertically by original light beam. The above mentioned 2 or 3 methods were used according to the patient's conditions. The distance between light source and irradiated location was 20-40 cm. The irradiated dosage, whether 3-5 or 6-10 minutes every time in each acupoint was determined in accordance with different disease. One therapeutic course of 15 times was taken once every other day. One week between each course was provided for rest. Drugs, traditional Chinese herbs and other therapeutic methods were all discontinued during therapy.

2. The therapeutic effect: 197 cases with 30 acute and chronic inflammatory diseases were irradiated. Most of them belong to the diseases of oralogy and ENT. Acute inflammation such as oral ulcer, furuncle of auris externa, stye, ulcerative palpebritis, conjunctivitis, tonsillitis, suppurative infections, paronychia, etc., had generally been cured by irradiating 2-6 times. In chronic inflammatory diseases such as pharyngitis, laryngitis, nasal sinusitis, etc., improvement was obtained in some degree by irradiating 7-25 times. The longer is the irradiated times, the better was the therapeutic effects. If treatment was continued, the curative rate may be increased. Among 197 cases, 106 were cured, 46 effective, 40 better and 5 ineffective. The total effective rate was 97%. This illustrated that photoacupuncture is a better method to treat inflammatory diseases. From the viewpoint of clinical therapeutic effect, local effect of photoacupuncture shows that the light spot is made as a centre and than expanded towards its surroundings. The effects are anti-inflammation, analgesia, anti-anaphylaxis, anti-itching antipruritic, astringent, detumescence, promoting the growth of granulomatous tissue, and accelerating the healing of necrosis or ulcers,
