This paper reported 4 cases of "Gan Ji" (malnutrition due to improper feeding) treated with acupuncture recently. Four cases are: (1) a male, 14 months old, troubled with loss of appetite, emaciation; dysphoria and insomnia for months, was cured after 12 days' treatment. (2) a male, 18 months old, troubled with loss of appetite, dysphoria, indigested foods were found in his stools for half a month, was cured after 6 days' treatment. (3) a female, 7 years old, troubled with loss of appetite, abdomen distention for half a month, was cured after 3 days' treatment. (4) a male, 2 years old, troubled with loss of appetite, mental exhaustion, diarrhea with indigested foods in stools, for 7 months, was cured after 14 days' treatment.

Treatment:

Thick filiform needles were inserted into main point 'Sifeng' and the adjunct: Hegu and Zusanli once a day. 6 days was a course of treatment. After 1-3 courses of treatment the patients would be cured.

Curative effect: remarkable. Above-mentioned patients were cured only by acupuncture after drugs produced no effect. And the acupuncture is economical, simple, no side-effect, it is better than drug-therapy,

Clinical realization;

1. Acupuncture diagnosis; Sifeng is a reflex point of 'Gan Ji'. As it was inserted by the needle, some white yellow mucus would come out. Diagnosis was based and two types of "GanJi" are distinguished according to the characteristics of the mucus, a, color, the whiter it was, the lighter was the illness; the yellower it was, the severe was the illness. b. quantity, the less it was, the lighter was the illness; the more it was, the severe was the illness, c. density, the thinner it was the lighter was the illness; the thicker it was, the severe was the illness, accordingly, of the 4 cases above-mentioned the 1st and the 4th were more serious than the 2nd and the 3rd.

2. Differential diagnosis:

When Sifeng was inserted with a needle, no mucus comes out, it means not Ganji.

3. Criteria of cure:

After treatment, no mucus came out when 'Sifeng' by needling; all the symptoms disappeared.

4. Preventive treatment:

It is the early period of the illness Gan is the later period. Early trcamcnt of '[i' with acupuncture will prevent Ji from changing into Gan.

5. Early treatment:

In order to raise the curative rate, early use of acupuncture, acupuncture diagnosis, acu-differential diagnosis, preventive treatment and combination of them in using should be stressed.
