ACUPUNCTURE ANAESTHESIA FOR LUNG RESECTION

From March, 1959 to November, 1983, by the method of acupuncture anesthesia created from the theory and clinical experiences of acupuncture, a total of 8,000 cases of lung resections were performed by domestic medical workers and scientific research personnel, The clinical practice showed that acupuncture anesthesia is one of effective method for lung resection and there was no accident in the operations.

Acceding to unified researching plan and evaluating standard, a lot of clinical and experimental data were accumulated in seven special hospitals. From which some experiences might be summarized as follows:

(1) How to choose acupoints, needling method and the stimulating parameter during operation.

(2) Management of respiration, the indication of non-intubation cases, the method and dosage of adjuvant.

(3) How to choose the cases; the complete method of operation.

(4) The regularity of psychology, pathophysiology and biochemistry of the patients. under lung resection with acupuncture anesthesia. The principle of acupuncture analgesia in clinical practice was also explored.

Through the clinical observation we hold that the acupuncture anesthesia applied in lung resection has the advantages of safety, being easy to operate, keeping the patient consciousness, early ambulation and no side-effect. The excellent rate of this anesthesia is achieved at more than 80%. Yet there are still some problems such as incomplete analgesia, visceral synesthesialgia and mediastinum swaying etc., which deserves further study in the future.
