Dr. Price's views of education in general and science education in particular
have evolved through the years. His Reference book of English
Words & Phrases for Foreign Science Students (1966) reflected the
English positivist view. As he studied the works of Karl Marx, Dr. Price
came to change his views. His Marx & Education in Late Capitalism
(1986) shows his understanding of education as a social process. He states
that, "were I to write it today I would want to bring out much more the
ecological aspects of Marx's thinking." He recommends:
Paul Burkett (1999) Marx & Nature: A Red & Green Perspective,
New York: St. Martin's Press
John Bellamy Foster (2000) Marx's Ecology: Materialism & Nature,
New York: Monthly Review Press.
Dr. Price is very interested in science as a social institution, and is
concerned that it often serves particular interests, not the interests of
ordinary people. He is particularly interested in the way in which theory
is produced and connections of explanation and "knowhow." These
topics are explored in Teaching Science for Social Responsibility.
Two of his books bring out his views on science and science
teaching/learning:
A Reference Book of English Words & Phrases for Foreign Science Students, Oxford, Pergamon Press, 1966
(with R.T. Cross), 1992, Teaching Science for Social Responsibility,
Sydney, St. Louis Press.
