Important Dates:

October 16: PSAT
October 17: Mock Writing Assessment (bring pencil and blue or black pen)
October 18: Indian Heritage Day
October 19: Teacher Inservice Day
November 13: PTSA
November 14: Progress Reports
November 21-23: Thanksgiving Holidays
November 14: Reading Exams
December 19: End of Grading Period

Accelerated Reader: Each student is required to pass two AR tests on their reading level. With AR the emphasis is on reading comprehension, both literal and inferential.

Reading Logs: Students must log at least 1350 minutes this grading period. The requirement is 150 minutes per week. This reading can be done at home and we do at least 30 minutes per week at school. Due Nov. 2, Nov. 28, Dec. 14.

Character Education: The topics for October, November, and December are respect, citizenship, and relationships.

Vocabulary: Spelling/vocabulary quizzes will be from the "260 Necessary Words." There will be quizzes over 10 words each Friday.

Writing: We will emphasize paragraph writing and summaries as well as prepare for the Georgia Writing Assessment. Students will write using descriptive words (adjectives, adverbs, figures of speech).

Novel Study: We will read Red Cap by Clifton Wisler. The novel is set during the time of the War Between the States, and focuses on the Andersonville, Georgia prisoner camp.
