Chapter Four:

"I am never going on that again," Lance muttered as he stepped out of the line for the Comet, his hair standing straighter than it had been before.

"I thought you liked rollercoasters," Libby teased, lightly elbowing him in the ribs.

"I do.  I did.  I don't like that one."

"Come on Lancie, that one is soooo tame compared to the next one we're going on," JC continued teasing on Libby's behalf.

"Tame?  What are we going on now?" Lance panicked.

"Great Bear," JC said, pointing toward a steel coaster that loomed in the distance.

Lance paled.  "You've got to be kidding."

"Nope.  Let's go!" JC said before dragging Lance toward the coaster.

"Hold up, I don't think I can go on that one," Libby said, stopping when the group arrived at the entrance.

"Why not?  I thought you loved rollercoasters," Chris said, confused.

"I do.  But I have this little thing with being upside-down, I kinda get really, extremely freaked out and I kinda get panic attacks.  Really bad ones, they're not pretty.  You guys can go on it, I'll stay here with Matty since he's too short."

"I'll stay with you," Lance said quickly, taking Matthew's left hand, since Libby was holding his right one.

"Thanks," Libby said, looking to Lance gratefully.

Libby and Lance sat down on a nearby bench with Matthew while Matt began a story about his last day of school.  Lance was paying attention, but Libby was only half there since she had heard the story eight times the day before.  She began looking around, in search of something to entertain herself.  Her eyes rested on a couple walking toward the bench, one blonde Britney Spears look-alike and one curly-haired 'N Sync'er.  "Oh great," Libby muttered.

Lance looked up in time to see Justin and Jenn walk up to the three, hand in hand.  "Hi guys," Lance said with no emotion whatsoever and a coldness in his voice Libby didn't know he possessed.

Justin was oblivious to Lance's tone of voice.  His smile was reaching unheathy proportions as he spoke.  "Hey.  What's up you two?"

Lance frowned and looked at Libby.  "Nothing.  I don't like the look of that smile.  J, care to tell me what's on your tiny little bleached mind?"

Justin's smile faded a bit at Lance's comment.  He momentarily glared at him, then cocked his head to the side in thought.  "You know what?  You two are adorable together."

Libby raised her eyebrows as Jenn agreed by shaking her head like a maniac.  "Me and Lance?"

"Yeah.  Don't tell me you haven't hooked up yet," Justin said, genuinely surprised.

"No, we have NOT hooked up Justin, we're friends.  And I'd like to think you'd be the one to go for the younger girl, and let JC have Jenn."  Lance knew he had struck a nerve in Jenn with his comment.

Jenn grimaced for a moment and realized that he knew.
And if he knows, she must have told all of them, she realized.  "Justin, ignore him.  Let's go back to the hotel."

"Jenn, you don't have a key to the-" Libby tried to say, but was interrupted.

"Justin's room.  We'll see you guys later."  With that, Jenn dragged Justin off without another word.

Libby sat still, staring into space.  "She knows we know.  She's not gonna let any one of you alone with him when you can tell him how old she is."

Lance shook his head.  "You're right.  I saw it in her eyes."

Matty stuck his nose into the conversation.  "Does Justin think Jenn's older than seventeen?"

Lance looked at Libby, who said to Matt, "He thinks she's twenty-three."

"Is that why they're together?"

"That's one of the reasons.  The other's probably because she looks like Britney Spears.  You're an articulate little guy, you know that cuz?"

"What's ar-tickle-lit mean?"

Libby and Lance smiled.  "I'll tell you when you're older, little man."
