Chapter Thirty-Four:
"Damnit Kevin, pick up the freaking phone," Hallie heard Ali mutter from the kitchen, where she was sitting with Justin and JC.  They had a show in Miami the day before she was supposed to go on tour, and they decided to pick up Ali that day.  Her stuff was already in the back of Justin's Mercedes, which was parked outside.  Ali was currently trying to get Kevin to answer his cell phone.

"Is she always this high strung?" Justin asked, shooting a glance in Ali's direction.

"Not usually," Hallie answered.  "She's just nervous about what Kevin's gonna say."

Immediately after Hallie spoke, the three in the kitchen heard Ali say, "Kev, hi...  Yeah, me too...  Yeah, I miss you too..."

JC spoke up.  "You know, I don't mean to evesdrop, but is it just me or does she sound like she's being forced to say that she misses him?"

Hallie listened to the tired tone in Ali's voice.  "Kinda... but she's just tired, is all.  She'll be okay as soon as we get to your house, Justin."  Hallie, Ali, JC and Justin were going to hang out at Justin's house until the concert that night, after which they were heading out of Florida.

"Kevin, I'm sorry...  NO nothing's going on...  Why would you ever think that?  Kevin, I'm hanging up now...  Whatever, you think what you want to...  Goodbye Kevin."

Moments later, Ali walked into the kitchen with a bright smile on her face.  "Are we ready to go?"

Kevin pushed the End button on his cell phone and threw it across the room, hitting the back wall of the bus; nearly hitting Nick in the head.

"Watch it man, don't you need that thing to communicate with your fiancee until tomorrow?"

Kevin glared at Nick from across the bus and growled, "She's not gonna be here for two weeks."

"How come?" Lily asked from her spot next to Nick.

Kevin sighed.  "Because she's going on tour with 'N Sync."

Jamie choked on her soda.  "Wha.. What?  She's going on tour with WHO?"

"'N Sync."

"WHY?" Jamie yelled, standing up in shock.

"Because that's where Hallie is, she called me a few minutes ago," Brian said, putting his phone back in his pocket and collapsing on the couch in between AJ and Cathy.  "How could she do this to me?" Brian asked, burying his head in a few pillows.

"I dunno Bri," Cathy said, putting a hand on Brian's shoulder.  "She does miss you though."

"I know, but...  I heard JC Chasez in the background talking to Justin Timberlake and Ali.  Something clicked...  I think I lost her," Brian said.

"You didn't lose her," Kevin said quickly.

"Yeah?  What about your fiancee, huh?  She's going on tour with Justin Timberlake, what do you think of that, huh?" Brian shouted, getting angry.

Kevin bit his tongue when he realized Brian was just angry and taking it out on him.  "She'll be here in two weeks.  Besides, what's two weeks?  What can happen in two weeks?"

"She could get engaged," AJ muttered, looking out the window aimlessly.

"And the idiot just looked at me for a few seconds, and she screamed in my face, 'Justin I love you!'  How weird can you get?" Justin asked his laughing friends.

"Man, you should hear some of the stories that we have to tell," JC said with a grin.  "Our fans are by far the most teenybopperish little brats... you'd swear that we were like, Gods or something."

"Wait a minute, wait a minute," Justin said, stopping the group from laughing.  Once everyone quieted down, Justin asked, "We're not Gods?"

"Oh my Lord, may I remind you?" Ali commented, hitting Justin in the ribs lightly from her spot on the floor next to him.  "Please Timberlake, you are soooooo not all that," Ali said, ducking out of the way before Justin playfully swatted her in the arm.

"Oh, really?"  Justin grinned.  "And why is it that everyone screams my name when I say the word 'Hi?' "

"And as JC said before, your fans are the most teenybopperish little brats.  If you like ten year-olds screaming your name, than I think you have some problems there, Mister Timberlake," Ali said with a grin.

"Okay, okay, you got me there," Justin admitted.  He slipped an arm around Ali's shoulders as he said, "But that's not the point.  I like my fans, yeah, but, well, I like my older fans, too.  Hallie tells me that you like our music."

Ali smiled.  "Yeah, I do.  I like some of your stuff.  But I have a question.  Do you guys write anything, other than stuff like 'Giddy Up?' "

"Actually, yeah," Justin said with a smile.  "I'm writing a song right now, actually.  You wanna hear some of it?"

"Sure," Ali said, standing up and sitting next to Hallie.

"Whaddya know?  We get our own little 'N Sync concert," Hallie said with a smile.

"Okay, JC, one, two, three, four...

"I'll be good for you, I ain't gonna take my love away,
I will love you more, girl, every day,
I'll be good for you, my baby girl it's plain to see,
That our love was meant to be.

I know your heart's anticipating, and my love is on the line,
Well, don't you worry, I won't keep you waiting,
Cause I ain't never seen a lady so fine, yeah
I know you want me to, it's in your eyes, they say you do,
They're telling me you'll open your heart to me,
Cause if you want me to, I'll sacrifice my world for you,
And show you the way love's supposed to be, yeah..."

Justin's words struck a chord in Ali, she was forced to evaluate her relationship with Kevin.  She twisted the ring around her finger nervously, and looked down at it.  She looked back at Justin, who was singing directly to her; it was like there was no one else in the room.  There was something about him, something...  Different.
