Chapter Twenty-Six:
"Hey," JC yelled over the music to the brunette.  He got her attention and introduced himself.  "I'm JC."

"Hallie," she said, looking over at JC.  "Are you gonna dance or just stand there?" she asked.

"I'm gonna dance, but only if I can dance with you," JC said with a smile.

"Well then you're gonna dance," Hallie said, smiling in return.

Just as she said this, The Thong Song came over the sound system.  "Hey, isn't he gonna release this song first from the album?" JC asked, refering to the upbeat song.

"Yeah, I think so," Hallie said, beginning to grind with JC.

Meanwhile, across the room, Brian was sitting at their table, and he was getting bored.  He glanced around the room, trying to find anything interesting to do or to watch.  His eyes traveled to the dance floor, where people were grinding to The Thong Song.  He saw Kev and Ali dancing, and AJ and Cathy, and he also caught Lily and Nick talking at the bar.  But he couldn't find Hallie.  He decided to venture onto the floor and try and find her so he would be less bored.  "Excuse me, excuse me," he muttered as he made his way to the middle of the floor.  What he saw made his mouth drop.  There, in the middle of a newly formed circle, was his girlfriend Hallie bumping and grinding with JC Chasez from 'N Sync.  "Can I cut in, thank you," he said quickly, grabbing Hallie's hand and pulling her away from JC, who was left standing in the middle of the dance floor, wondering what was going on and why he was suddenly grinding with air.  Brian lead Hallie to the edge of the dance floor, where he asked her, "What were you doing?"

"Dancing," she said, not blinking once.

"You call bumping and grinding with a member of 'N Suck
(A.N.  j/k 'N Sync fans, I like them!) dancing?"  Brian's temperature was rising.

"Yes, I do," she said, her temperature also rising.  "JC happens to be a nice guy, and I'm afraid I don't know of a group called 'N SUCK!" she yelled, getting angry at Brian.

"Well I do, and I don't like to see you dancing with any members of it!"

"Who I dance with is none of your business!"

"Yes it is!  I'm your boyfriend, you should be dancing with ME!"

"You didn't want to dance!"  Brian opened his mouth to say something but Hallie cut him off.  "Save it Brian.  I'm going home, and don't you dare follow me."

"Hallie, wait!" Brian said as she turned on her heels and walked out the door.  He soon realized it was fruitless and gave up, sitting down at the table, wondering why he exploded at Hallie like that.

~Across the room~

"So, how did you meet Cathy?" Nick asked Lily, trying to make conversation.  He was basically forbidden to go near Kevin and Ali, and not only by Kevin, but he knew it was probably the smartest thing to do at that point.  Ali had forgiven him only after he had convinced her that his outburst in the club was only the alcohol talking, but Kevin knew otherwise and was, of course, protective of her.  His eye had basically healed, and whenever he was asked about it, he said he ran into a door.

"Oh, I knew her since we were little," Lily replied.  "We met in dance class when we were like, three.  We were best friends up until first grade, then Cath had to move to Orlando.  We kept in touch for a while, writing letters and stuff, but we lost touch over the years.  I had a vacation coming to me, so I decided to spend it in Florida, and I found her number and thought what the hell, and here I am."

"You're a dancer?" Nick asked, genuinely interested.  They had needed a new dancer for the next leg of their Into The Millennium tour, since one of them had met someone in France and decided to stay there with him.

"Yeah.  Why do you ask?"

"We need a new dancer.  One quit and now we need a female dancer.  Would you be willing to audition for our management to come on tour with us?  I know the girls are going, Cathy included," Nick said, trying to persuade her.

"Sure," she said with a smile.  "Touring sounds like fun.  I've never really done anything like that before, I was in a few music videos, but nothing like touring across the country.  We are touring across the country, the US, right?"

"Yeah, this next tour's the American and Canadian part of it.  We'll be hitting the states from September through early December."

"That sounds great.  Well, just tell me when and where I have to audition, and I'll be there."

"Great."  Across the room, Cathy was looking at Nick and Lily talking, and suddenly, she felt as if she had lost something very near and dear to her.
