Chapter Twenty-Three
"Who's getting married?" AJ repeated as Jamie's mouth dropped.  "Well if you're not gonna answer me, then gimme the phone," AJ said, grabbing for the phone.

"James?  Who's that?  Is that Alex?  James, say something!" Ali yelled from the other end of the line.

"Ali?  Hey, sweeite, how's LA?" AJ asked, sitting down on the couch.  Then it dawned on him.  "Are you getting married?" he asked with a serious face on.

"Umm, well, LA's cool, it's awesome here.  And, well, I, uh, IamgettingmarriedtoKevin."

"You ARE getting married?"  AJ's temperature was rising at this point.  "Are you sure about this?  You've only been dating, what, three weeks?  Ali, I don't think this is the best idea," AJ said, concerned for his cousin.

"Alex, this is not negotiable, I'm gettting married whether you like it or not."  Ali's temperature was rising also.

"We'll talk about this when you get back to Orlando."  With that, AJ hung up the phone.

"Why did you do that?  I wanted to congradulate her," Cathy said.

"Congradulate her?  Why does she want to get married?  She's only nineteen years old, barely even legal.  Why would she wanna get married?" he asked, frustrated.

"Maybe because she found the person she's meant to be with for the rest of her life," Cathy said, sitting down on the couch next to him.

"Maybe she has.  But she's still my baby cousin."

"AJ, she's gonna be twenty in two weeks.  She's not exactly the little kid that she used to be.  She's not your baby cousin anymore."

"Don't you think I know that?  But I still remember when we were little.  When we would used to play out in the backyard and I would push her on the swing.  Naturally, wanting to be just like me, she would jump off the swing too early and end up flat on her butt in the dust.  Those were the days," AJ said, grinning from ear to ear.  His grin faded.  "But when she would actually get hurt, and I would see her crying, I just wanted the world to shut off for a few minutes so I could make it all better for her.  Of course, she never really seriously got hurt, she would be fine as soon as my mom brought out a few cookies and a band-aid for her.  But just seeing the pain in her eyes, I just wanted to protect her from everything and anything.  And now, getting married....  I don't think I can deal with this now, I gotta go somewhere to clear my head."

Leaving Cathy sitting on the couch, wondering how she could help him, he got up, went to his car, and pulled out of the driveway in a screech.

"Sure AJ, I'll give you some time.  No, really I'll be fine.  It's okay," Cathy said to herself while she grabbed the phone to call Ali's cell.

"Hey, are you calling Ali?" Jamie asked from the kitchen.

"Yeah, why?"

"Someone called for you, umm, her name was Lily Baker, I think."

"Lily?  Oh jeez, I haven't talked to her in years!"  Cathy dialed a number she hadn't thought of dialing in years.

"Baker here."

"Lily?  It's-"

"Cathy!  Oh my gosh, I haven't talked to you in years!"

"Well, you called.  How's the dance life treating you?"

"Pretty good, but I wanted to tell you that I was coming to Orlando in a few weeks."

"Oh that is so great!  You have to visit us!"

"Us?" Lily asked.

"Oh, uhh, me and my friends.  Ali, Jamie and Hallie."  Of course, she left out the small detail that the rest of "us" were the Backstreet Boys.

"That'll be great.  Well, listen, I gotta go, I have dance tomorrow.  I'll see you in a few weeks!"

"Yeah, bye!"
This is great, Cathy thought.  One of my old friends os gonna visit and Ali's getting married!  This is great.
