Chapter Twenty-Two:
"Kev, you know you don't have to carry me, I can walk," Ali said as she was carried into the hotel room Kevin and she shared.

"I know, I wanted to carry you though."

"Oh-kay, whatever you want," she said as he kicked the door shut behind him.

"You know, I was meaning to ask you something," Kevin said, slightly nervous as he sat her down on the bed.

"What?  Kev, what's the matter?  What did I do?" Ali asked, panicked at the thought that he was going to dump her to get back with Kristin.

"Sweetie, no, I am not breaking up with you," Kevin said, practically reading her mind.  Ali let out a breath she had been holding and Kevin continued.  "Honey, you know how much I love you," he began.

"Of course I know, I love you too."

"Okay.  Anyway, I kinda wanted to ask you something.  Something really important."  At that, Kevin got up from his spot next to Ali and walked over to the dresser.  When he walked back, he held something behind his back.  "I know we haven't been together for that long, and I know your cousin is probably going to kill me for this, but I know what my heart is telling me, and my heart is telling me that this is right."  With that, he dropped to one knee in front of Ali, whose jaw was on the floor, and pulled out a ring box from behind his back and opened it to reveal a diamond engagement ring.  "Alison Sydney McLean, will you marry me?"

Ali was stunned.  She knew what she wanted to say, it was such an easy decision.  And it was right on the tip of her tongue.  But for some reason she couldn't get her mouth to work.  So, after staring at the ring and Kevin's hopeful face for a few seconds and trying to work her jaw, she decided to just shake her head.

"You will?" he asked, just as stunned as Ali had been.

"Yes," she whispered.

Kevin slipped the ring on her finger and hugged her.

"I can't wait to tell Alex, he's gonna have a heartattack," Ali said when she had regained control over her emotions and mouth.

"And he might just kill me," Kevin added, still hugging her, not wanting to let go.

"He won't kill you, trust me.  If he lays a finger on you, I'll break every bone in his scrawny little body."

"Hello?" Jamie answered the phone, sitting herself down on the couch, getting comfortable.

"Hello, can I speak to Cathy James?" a strange voice asked.

"Umm, she's not here right now, can I take a message?" Jamie asked, looking out into the driveway for Cathy's Mustang Convertible GT, which was gone.  AJ's truck was in it's place, so she assumed she was with AJ.

"Umm, yeah, could you just tell her that Lily Baker called?  She'll know who I am," Lily said, switching the phone between ears.

"Sure, willdo," Jamie replied.

"Thanks.  Bye."

"Bye."  Immediately after, the phone rang once again.  "Hello?"

"James?  Oh my God, I can't believe it!" Ali said, excited into the phone.

"Woah, Als, calm yourself down.  Take a deep breath."  She heard Ali take a breath and let it out.  "Better now?"

There was slience on the other end for a second, then Ali burst out with, "I'm getting married!"

"Married?" Jamie asked, just as AJ and Cathy walked into the back door to the house.

"Who's getting married?" AJ asked, stepping into the living room.
