Aromatic Inula
Gorse |
Along the road and in the olive and almond orchards one plant stands out, a bold bright green with tall spikes of untidy yellow daisies. Inula viscosa has a strong smell when disturbed and its narrow leaves are stiff and slightly sticky. The bushy plant is between 50 and 80 cm high. The bright yellow autumn buttercup, (Ranunculus bullatus) will appear after the rains. It can be found in damp places. One of the earliest gorses to bloom is Ulex parviflorus, the Small-flowered Gorse. The small very spiny shrub growing on rocky hillsides is covered with bright yellow flowers.
