Tolkien Timeline - The Lost Road - Age of the Valar

This Timeline is in permanent construction. Suggestions are welcome. It is based on Tolkien's texts in 1937 and 1938, between the publication of _The Hobbit_ and the begining of _The Lord of The Rings_. Most data was taken from The Later Annals of Valinor , pages 109ss of _The Lost Road_

Ages of the Valar

One Year of the Valar corresponds to 10 of the Years of the Sun.
One Age of the Valar corresponds to 100 Years of the Valar

Zero

  • Ilúvatar makes everything

  • The Valar enter the World

    Year 500 of the Valar

  • Aulë makes the Two Lamps

  • Morgoth makes their pillars of Ice

  • The Ice melts, and destroys the Lamps

  • The symmetry of the Earth and Water is broken

  • The Valar retreat to Valinor

    Year 1000 of the Valar

  • The Two Trees are made in Valinor

  • Morgoth dwells in the North of Middle-earth, in Utumna

    Year 1900 of the Valar

  • Varda makes the Stars. Some of the Valarindi move to Middle-earth

    Year 1950 of the Valar

  • Varda makes the Sickle of the Gods. End of the Starmaking

  • The Elves awake in the middle of Middle-earth.

    Year 1980 of the Valar

  • Oromë finds the Elves and befriends them

  • War of the Gods: Morgoth is imprisioned in Mandos

  • The March of the Elves begins

    Year 2000 of the Valar

  • Noontide of the Blessed Realm

  • The Lindar and the Noldor come to Valinor, and build the city of Tûn upon the hill of Kôr

    Year 2000 - 2010 of the Valar

  • The Teleri live on the shores of Beleriand

  • A company of the Noldor, whose leader was Dan, turns south

    Year 2010 - 2110 of the Valar

  • The Teleri dwell in Tol Eressëa

    Year 2111 of the Valar

  • The ships of the Teleri come to Valinor, from Tol Eressëa

  • The Teleri build the haven of Alqalondë (Swan-haven)

    c. Year 2500 of the Valar

  • The Noldor invent and begin fashioning gems

  • Fëanor, eldest son of Finwë, chief of the Noldor, make the Silmarils

    Year 2700 of the Valar

  • Morgoth, aided by the prayers of Nienna his sister, sues por pardon, and is released from Mandos

  • He gains the friendship of the Noldoli

  • Denithor, son of Dan, comes to Ossiriand

    Year 2900 of the Valar

  • Morgoth seeds dissension between the sons of Finwë (Fëanor, Fingolfin and Finrod)

  • The Valar depose Fëanor from the leadership of the Noldoli.

    Year 2950 of the Valar

  • Morgoth flees to Arvalin

    Year 2990 of the Valar

  • Morgoth, with the aid of Ungoliantë, destroys the Two Trees

  • Morgoth sacks the dwellings of Fëanor, steals the jewels, and slays Finwë et al

  • Morgoth returns to Middle-earth

  • Morgoth makes war against Thingol and Denithor. Denithor is slain. Melian protects Doriath with magic

    Year 2991 of the Valar

  • Rebellion of Fëanor. The Oath.

    Year 2992 of the Valar

  • The Flight of the Noldoli begins

  • The Battle of Alqualondë: the Noldoli take the ships of the Teleri

    Year 2993 of the Valar

  • The Doom of Mandos

  • Finrod, Rúmil, and many elves return to Valinor, but Aulë smiles on them no more

    Year 2994 of the Valar

  • Fëanor crosses the Sea by the ships

    Year 2995 of the Valar

  • Fëanor comes to Drengist, in Beleriand, and burns the ships

  • They encamp at the north of Lake Mithrim

  • Dagor-os-Giliath, the Battle under Stars: the Noldor were victorious, but Fëanor is killed by Gothmog

  • Fingolfin begins the crossing of Helkaraksë

    Year 2996 of the Valar

  • Maidros, son of Fëanor, is captured by Morgoth

    Year 2997 of the Valar

  • Maidros is chained to Thangorodrim

    Year 3000 of the Valar

  • Fingolfin and the sons of Finrod come to Beleriand

  • The Ages of the Sun begin
